Maricopa County – Investigation Finds Additional 740,000 Ballots Have No Documented Chain Of Custody

A new report from Verity Vote provides massive evidence of law violations in Maricopa County’s 2020 election.

740,000 ballots were accepted and counted without the proper chain of custody documentation in violation of Arizona Law.

Maricopa County failed to record the number of ballots on 1,514 out of 1,895 unique chain of custody documents and failed to record signatures on 48 of these documents. There is no way of knowing how many ballots these invalid documents accounted for or inserted into the system.

The Arizona Senate’s full forensic audit report has been delivered to the Arizona Attorney General, and we are awaiting the results of his criminal investigation.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, auditors have been chosen to analyze the routers and Splunk logs used in the 2020 election, and they are working to answer the Senate’s questions.

Verity Vote has conducted an investigation of Maricopa County’s ballot chain of custody for the 2020 General Election.County records used to document retrieval of early voting ballots from vote centers and drop box locations reveal numerous violations of Arizona election law.

The violations identified are important because failure to maintain chain of custody and properly document ballot retrieval and transport makes it impossible to verify the origin of the ballots counted in an election.Arizona Law outlines specific requirements for secure ballot retrieval and chain of custody procedures for the transfer of voted ballots from drop boxes and vote centers. Maricopa County officials violated Arizona law and do not have the required chain of custody for at least 740,000 ballots.

According to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, “keeping a proper chain of custody is more than a best practice ─ it is essential to encouraging trust in our democracy.” EAC advocates for thorough, detailed chain of custody. “Chain of custody documents provide evidence that can be used to authenticate election results, corroborate post-election tabulation audits, and demonstrate that election outcomes can be trusted.” The Arizona legislature understood the need for ballot chain of custody and included that requirement in Title 16. The AZ Secretary of State, Governor, and the Attorney General agreed on the requirements for voted ballots deposited in Early Voting locations in the 2019 Elections Procedures Manual (EPM). The EPM identifies the County Recorder as the party responsible for implementing procedures to ensure proper chain of custody of ballots.

It is not unreasonable to conclude that surgical and cloth masks, used as they currently are being used (without other forms of PPE protection), have no impact on controlling the transmission of Covid-19 virus. Current evidence implies that face masks can be actually harmful. The body of evidence indicates that face masks are largely ineffective.

My focus is on COVID face masks and the prevailing science that we have had for nearly 20 months. Yet I wish to address this mask topic at a 50,000-foot level on the lockdown restrictive policies in general. I build on the backs of the fine work done by Gupta, Kulldorff, and Bhattacharya on the Great Barrington Declaration (GBD) and similar impetus by Dr. Scott Atlas (advisor to POTUS Trump) who, like myself, was a strong proponent for a focused type of protection that was based on an age-risk stratified approach.

Because we saw very early on that the lockdowns were the single greatest mistake in public health history. We knew the history and knew they would not work. We also knew very early of COVID’s risk stratification. Sadly, our children will bear the catastrophic consequences and not just educationally, of the deeply flawed school closure policy for decades to come (particularly our minority children who were least able to afford this). Many are still pressured to wear masks and punished for not doing so.

I present the masking ‘body of evidence’ below (n=167 studies and pieces of evidence), comprised of comparative effectiveness research as well as related evidence and high-level reporting. To date, the evidence has been stable and clear that masks do not work to control the virus and they can be harmful and especially to children.

Wisconsin Election Commission Charged Republicans Up to $12,500 for Each Voter Data Request in the 2020 Election But Gave Similar Data to Democrat Democrat Groups for Free

A May 2019 memo from the Wisconsin Elections Commission was unearthed showing how the state charges entities for information within the ERIC voter roll maintenance system. These fees however were not consistently assessed during the 2020 Election cycle.

A document unearthed from 2019 in Wisconsin shows that the state had an agreement with the ERIC voter roll maintenance system and used this system to manage the state’s voter roll.

We reported on the ERIC system recently at The Gateway Pundit.

Since our first report, Louisiana has voted to stop using ERIC, Arizona has calls to end that state’s relationship with ERIC, and Florida patriots have raised concerns there as well.

The 2019 document that we unearthed in Wisconsin related to ERIC is embedded below. There are two points in the memo that we highlighted.

The first point is what is expected of the data housed in ERIC.

Under 2015 Act 261, the Elections Commission is required to enter into a membership agreement with ERIC. The agreement must: (a) safeguard the confidentiality of information or data in the registration list; (b) prohibit the sale or distribution of the information or data in the registration list to a third-party vendor and prohibit any other action not associated with administration of or compliance with the agreement; and (c) allow the state to make contact with electors by electronic mail, whenever possible.

The second point is the costs charged for sharing data from ERIC.

The Commission currently sells voter registration data to various individuals and organizations and, under state statute, is required to use fee revenue to “cover both the cost of reproduction and the cost of maintaining the list.” The Commission currently charges a $25 base fee plus $5 for up to 1,000 records, $5 for each additional 1,000 records, and a maximum of $12,500 for the sale of voter registration data.

16 alleged Mossad spies go on trial in Turkey — reports

ANKARA, Turkey — Sixteen people went on trial in Istanbul on Tuesday, charged with “political and military” espionage on behalf of Israel, Turkish media reports said.

The defendants, including Palestinians and Syrians, were arrested in October in an operation by Turkey’s national intelligence agency, MIT, according to the pro-government Sabah newspaper and other Turkish media. They face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The suspects allegedly spied on Palestinian and Turkish students and other people on behalf of Israel, operating in five separate groups, Sabah newspaper reported. Some of the suspects allegedly met with Israeli officials in Switzerland, Croatia, Romania and Kenya.

Turkish intelligence officers reportedly monitored the group for a year before they were arrested.

Turkish officials have not commented on the arrests.

Thousands of demonstrators have successfully occupied Canada’s frigid capital for days, and say they plan on staying as long as it takes to thwart the country’s vaccine requirements.

The brazen occupation of Ottawa came as a result of unprecedented coordination between various anti-vaccine and anti-government organizations and activists, and has been seized on by similar groups around the world.

It may herald the revenge of the anti-vaxxers.

The so-called “freedom convoy” – which departed for Ottawa on 23 January – was the brainchild of James Bauder, an admitted conspiracy theorist who has endorsed the QAnon movement and called Covid-19 “the biggest political scam in history”. Bauder’s group, Canada Unity, contends that vaccine mandates and passports are illegal under Canada’s constitution, the Nuremberg Code and a host of other international conventions.

Bauder has long been a fringe figure, but his movement caught a gulf stream of support after the prime minister, Justin Trudeau, announced last year that truckers crossing the US-Canada border would need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. The supposed plight of the truckers proved to be a compelling public relations angle and attracted an array of fellow travelers.

Until now, a litany of organizations had protested Canada’s strict public health measures, but largely in isolation. One such group, Hold Fast Canada, had organized pickets of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s headquarters, where they claimed that concentration camps had already been introduced in the country.

Another group, Action4Canada, launched legal challenges to mask and vaccine mandates. In one 400-page court filing, they allege that the “false pronouncement of a Covid-19 ‘pandemic’” was carried out, at least in part, by Bill Gates and a “New World (Economic) Order” to facilitate the injection of 5G-enabled microchips into the population.

Both groups are listed as “participating groups” on the Canada Unity website, and sent vehicles and personnel to join the convoy.

Other organizers joined Bauder, including Chris Barber, a Saskatchewan trucker who was fined $14,000 in October for violating provincial public health measures; Tamara Lich, an activist for a fringe political party advocating that western Canada should become an independent state; Benjamin Dichter, who has warned of the “growing Islamization of Canada”; and Pat King, an anti-government agitator who has repeatedly called for Trudeau to be arrested.

Ukraine & Russia Plan Rival War Drills As Macron Meets With President Zelensky

A day after his five-hour long summit in Moscow with President Putin, France's Emmanuel Macron arrived in Kiev on Tuesday, continuing his push to find a diplomatic settlement to the ongoing Ukraine standoff. Macron said he had received "assurances" from Putin of no more escalation, and the two leaders had agreed to work on the French president's proposals for deescalating the situation.

"I obtained [commitments] that there will be no worsening and escalation," Macron told reporters on the plane while en route to Ukraine. However, as Bloomerg reports, "A French government official said Macron’s remark that Putin assured him of no further escalation was in reference to not massing any further troops near the Ukraine border. But the official added it was a conditional commitment and the situation, and its perception by Putin, could change."

"For me, it was about 'locking the game' in order to prevent an escalation and open up new prospects. For me, this goal has been achieved. France has strengthened its credibility," Macron told a broadcaster.

"We will do everything to find compromises that suit everyone," Macron said further according to France 24. He said that Putin "assured me of his readiness to engage," adding "there is no security for the Europeans if there is no security for Russia."

Macron on Tuesday met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he communicated some of the positive diplomatic momentum gained with Putin. Zelensky in a joint press conference acknowledged that "Emmanuel Macron is doing a lot to preserve peace."

France is "determined to pursue mediation efforts," the Ukrainian leader added. "This shared resolve is the only path" to peace. Macron said during the joint presser that France wants to "reengage in a lasting de-escalation" in the region. Both agreed that "The discussions have made it possible to build this security and stability in the region."

Meanwhile, muscle-flexing continues on both sides. Russia has continued sending forces to Belarus in preparation for major planned joint military exercises coming just days away. At the same time, Ukraine is planning its own 'response' in the form of large-scale drills mirroring that of its rival.

"Ukraine’s armed forces geared up for military exercises in response to Russia’s troop buildup along its borders as French President Emmanuel Macron shuttled from Moscow to Kyiv on Tuesday in an attempt to ease tensions and avert a conflict," The Wall Street Journal describes.

Five Deutsche Welle personnel were fired, though the investigation found no “structural” issue with antisemitism

Deutsche Welle, Germany’s public broadcaster, announced this week that five staff members had been let go after a probe which looked into antisemitic comments made on and off the job, and also examined its recruiting processes, as well as the diversity of guest speakers.

Besides the five staffers, four of whom worked at the Arabic desk, some freelancers for the outlet have also been terminated, and the investigation is ongoing.

So far, it has not uncovered evidence of a systematic problem at the public broadcaster, which receives hundreds of millions in federal funds every year.

Individual instances of antisemitism include one journalist referring to Israel as a “cancer,” according to Bild newspaper, and a recruiter comparing Jewish people to “ants,” and even Holocaust denial, according to the investigative report from Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) that helped kick off the internal investigation.

The probe began in December and was conducted by independent investigators. Only publicly available information like social media posts was analyzed for it.

The company also announced that it would be providing staff members and business partners with “detailed guidelines” on what defines antisemitism, and there will be “additional hires” for the Israel correspondence office.

Feds ready to act should 'foul play' be detected in trucker convoy funding, says public safety minister

Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says the federal government will be in a position to act should law enforcement detect nefarious financial support of the “Freedom Convoy.”

His comments come amid speculation that the convoy received American-backed financing as it pursued its occupation of the nation’s capital in an attempt to convince elected officials to remove all vaccine mandates and other public health restrictions.

American crowdfunding platform GoFundMe, where the convoy’s more than $10 million were raised, removed the group’s fundraising page last Friday after stating it violated the platform’s terms.

“We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity,” a statement from GoFundMe reads.

One million dollars had already been released to the organizers of the protests with the intention of being spent on fuel, food, and lodging costs. The rest of the money will be refunded directly to donors.

While information about donors, their location, and their intention remains limited, Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly indicated in a press conference last week that there may be U.S. ties.

“We are now aware of a significant element from the U.S. that have been involved in the funding, the organizing,” he said.

Mendicino said on Monday that Canada has a “robust” intelligence community that will flag to the government concerns of national security, as well as a separate branch within the RCMP that looks into these types of issues.

“That’s why I’m certainly confident that wherever there’s foul play of the sort, that we’ll be in a position to act appropriately,” said Mendicino.

The public safety minister added that there are laws in place that prohibit anyone from contributing to an initiative that undermines national security.

“If, for example, someone was contributing with the intent of either causing public harm of trying to undermine public safety, that would be something that would be against the law and there would be appropriate sanctions for that, if proven in the court of law,” he said.

Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair added that it is necessary to cast a light on the sources of funding who are endorsing “illegal activity.”

“I think when [Canadians] understand the source of some of this funding, it helps them understand the motivation of this protest – who is actually behind it – and I think it also reveals some of the false nature of claims being made and the positions being put forward,” he said on Monday.

The IG is trying to determine if the Capitol Police have been illegally spying on members of Congress, their staff, or visitors to their offices.

The inspector general for the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) has opened a formal investigation into whether the law enforcement agency tasked with securing the Capitol has been inappropriately surveilling elected members of Congress, their staff, and visitors to their offices, The Federalist has learned. The opening of the investigation follows news reports and accusations from lawmakers that USCP has overstepped its bounds as it tries to recover from the January 6 riots that tarnished both the Capitol and the reputation of the law enforcement agency that was supposed to keep it safe.

USCP Chief J. Thomas Manger confirmed the opening of the inspector general investigation in his response to congressional inquiries about USCP police tactics, reported in a January 24 article published by Politico, including surveilling and compiling intelligence dossiers on members of Congress, their staff, and visitors.

“While I am confident in our methods, I am asking the USCP Office of the Inspector General to review the USCP’s programs related to these security assessments to assure both this Committee, the Congress as a whole, and the public that these processes are legal, necessary, and appropriate,” Manger wrote to seven Republican lawmakers.

According to the Politico article, USCP analysts had been directed by Julie Farnam, the acting director of USCP’s Intelligence and Interagency Coordination Division, to “run ‘background checks on people whom lawmakers planned to meet, including donors and associates.”

“Instead of fixing the obvious problems with Capitol security, Pelosi used January 6 as an excuse to create her own personal Praetorian Guard,” the aide said.

Comments and recommendations for mandatory background checks on staff by Pelosi’s hand-picked Capitol security adviser, retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, have also done little to quell suspicions that Pelosi is using the January 6 proceedings to justify increased surveillance of her political enemies in Congress.

“My main concern is that the entire Capitol Police board structure is dependent on political leadership to make security decisions,” Davis said. “Security decisions are being made based on politics, not on real data.”

“I’m not convinced we’re in any better security position today than we were on January 6,” he added, blaming Pelosi’s control of the process for the lack of real progress or improvements.

Banks also blasted Pelosi and said she is using the House’s January 6 commission as a weapon against her political opponents.

“It’s painfully clear to all of us that the sham January 6 commission is not at all interested in making the Capitol safer or preventing something like January 6 from ever happening again,” Banks said. “It’s clear that the January 6 commission is just a witch hunt against the political enemies of Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney.”

Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his TRUTH Social media venture, which is set to come public via a SPAC deal with Digital World Acquisition (NASDAQ:DWAC), can compete with Big Tech rivals in the social media space.

"I certainly think so. And we're not reliant on them. And this country needs a voice," Trump told Fox Business News when asked if his new social media venture can stack up against established players in the industry.

TRUTH Social is currently slated to launch at the end of March, more than a month after a previously reported start date on Feb. 21.

TRUTH is part of a new media venture fronted by the former president, called Trump Media & Technology. The company announced a deal with DWAC in October to come public.

Trump Media and Technology CEO Devin Nunes reported that ramping up the network has been difficult, as the company has looked to build an infrastructure not reliant on Big Tech, eschewing platforms like Amazon's AWS.

Asked whether he planned to mount another run for president in 2024, Trump didn't answer the question directly but left open the possibility for another campaign.

"Well, the poll say I should," he said.

Serial Rapist Cop, Sentenced to 263 Years, Up for Parole After Doing Just 6 Years

Oklahoma City, OK — A disgraced former Oklahoma City police officer, Daniel Holtzclaw, 29, was sentenced to 263 years in prison in 2016, after being convicted of numerous rapes and sexual assaults while on duty. Holtzclaw was convicted on 18 felony counts — including four counts of first-degree rape in December, 2015.

After serving a portion of this sentence, Holtzclaw appealed, maintaining his innocent since the beginning. In 2019, Holtzclaw tried to appeal the case, however, the evidence against him is so overwhelming, a judge refused to overturn his conviction.

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals in August 2019 upheld the convictions of Holtzclaw. On Monday, however, Holtzclaw once again tried to get out of jail, getting yet another chance before Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board. Luckily for his victims, once again, he was denied in a 5-0 vote.

Holtzclaw and his family have maintained his innocence since day one and claim that because the judge in his case, Oklahoma County District Judge Tim Henderson, was accused of sexual misconduct himself, that Holtzclaw must have been railroaded.

“I hope and pray more people finally see I truly was railroaded and wrongfully convicted,” he said in a statement. “I upheld my oath of office by protecting and serving my community, while Judge Henderson was allegedly abusing women and violating his oath. It’s time to reopen every one of Henderson’s cases, including mine, that was impacted by his sexual misconduct.”

Clearly his family is ignoring all the evidence in the case which is what led to the unprecedented sentence against this serial rapist cop.

In most cases, police departments and unions rush to the defense of criminal cops, but in this case, they actually didn’t.

“Your offenses committed against women in our community constitute the greatest abuse of police authority I have witnessed in my 37 years as a member of this agency,” Oklahoma City Police Chief Bill Citty said in a letter when he fired Holtzclaw.

The evidence in the case showed that Holtzclaw actually went through the police database to find the vulnerable women that he could attack.

As we reported at the time, after accessing the list of names that Holtzclaw had run through the department’s databases, the Sex Crimes Unit interviewed the women on that list and discovered six more women who accused Holtzclaw of sexually assaulting them. The women had been afraid to report the crimes because most of them had a history of drug abuse or prostitution. According to the Sex Crimes Unit, Holtzclaw used one database to check for existing warrants and the other database to see if any of his victims had reported him.

“He didn’t choose CEOs or soccer moms; he chose women he could count on not telling what he was doing,” District Attorney Lori McConnell said during the trial’s closing arguments, according to Reuters. “He counted on the fact no one would believe them and no one would care.”

New Zealand Convoy Protesters Gather Near Parliament Against COVID-19 Restrictions

Hundreds of New Zealand protesters have gathered near the Parliament building in the country’s capital Wellington, demanding an end to COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine mandates.

Arriving in convoy from around the country, cars, trucks, camper vans, and other vehicles jammed the capital’s streets for hours as they got out to meet and speak on Parliament’s forecourt.

Protesters carrying signs and flags against vaccine requirements and other restrictions took to city streets.

In New Zealand, teachers, doctors, nurses, police, and military personnel are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Masks are also required in stores and among children over age 8 in school classrooms.

Vehicles covered with messages such as “give us back our freedom” and “coercion is not consent” stationed themselves in the streets surrounding the Parliament building, AFP reported.

Stu Main, from Wellington, told AFP that he believes people should be free to choose whether to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

“I’m actually vaccinated but I’m against mandating people to be vaccinated,” he said. “I think it’s disgraceful, forcing vaccination on people who don’t want it.”

Police told 1News they were monitoring the protests.

“We understand any delays for motorists as a result of the protest will be frustrating. Our staff will continue to monitor the situation and respond to any issues that may arise,” a police spokesperson told the news outlet.

Police also said Tuesday afternoon they hadn’t made any arrests and that protest organizers had asked protesters to move their cars and trucks by 5 p.m., ahead of the evening rush hour.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told Radio New Zealand that she didn’t plan to enter discussions with the protesters.

“Ninety-six percent of New Zealanders have gone out and got a vaccination, which has enabled us to live now with fewer restrictions because of the extra protection that has provided,” she said.

Shares of Digital World Acquisition (NASDAQ:DWAC) managed to post big gains in January despite big sell-offs hitting the broader market. The Donald Trump-backed special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) saw its share price climb 42.1% in the month, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Digital World Acquisition is set to take Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) public through a merger, and the SPAC stock has been gaining ground amid excitement for its merger partner's upcoming social media platform. TMTG's Truth Social is being positioned as an alternative to Twitter and other top social media platforms, and signs pointing to a Presidents Day release for the new service helped spur big gains for the stock last month.

So what

Truth Social's application profile page on Apple's App Store was updated on Jan. 6 and seemed to point to the service launching on Feb. 21: Presidents Day. The update kicked off a stretch of gains for Digital World stock, and the company's share price also appears to have gotten a big lift from a rally Trump hosted in Arizona on Jan. 15. Some investors and analysts interpreted the rally as an indication that Trump plans to run for president again in 2024, and it's possible that another campaign could help spur engagement for Truth Social.

Digital World Acquisition's stock gains last month look even more impressive in the context of the big sell-offs that hit the broader market. The S&P 500 closed out January down 5.3%, and the even more tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index ended the period down 9%.

Now what

Digital World Acquisition stock has continued to gain ground this month despite market volatility stemming from Big Tech earnings. The SPAC stock is up roughly 1.2% in February so far.

After Meta Platforms published very disappointing fourth-quarter results and guidance, Trump made statements suggesting that the social media giant was seeing users leave due to anticipation for Truth Social. With TMTG's social platform still weeks away from its expected debut, it's unlikely that the upcoming service had any material impact on Meta's performance, but anticipation for Truth Social does seem to be driving Digital World Acquisition stock higher.

The SPAC's share price could soar if Truth Social goes on to be a hit, but investors should move forward knowing there's not much visibility on the platform's outlook. As for the merger, Digital World's combination with Trump Media & Technology Group will likely be completed in the near future, and the combined companies will then operate and trade on Nasdaq under the TMTG ticker.

Peloton Co-founder Steps Down After Rough Ride

The co-founder of Peloton is stepping down as chief executive after an extended streak of tumult at the interactive exercise bike and treadmill company, which will also cut almost 3,000 jobs.

John Foley first pitched the idea for Peloton in 2011, hoping to disrupt the industry. He will give up the CEO position and become executive chair at Peloton Interactive Inc.

Barry McCarthy, who served as CFO at Spotify as well as at Netflix, will take over as CEO, the company said Tuesday. Shares surged more than 16 percent in morning trading on Tuesday.

Peloton has been on a wild ride for the past two years during the pandemic. Company shares surged more than 400 percent in 2020 amid COVID-19 lockdowns that included gyms. Nearly all of those gains were wiped out last year as the distribution of vaccines sent many people out of there homes and back into gyms.

This week, there were reports that Amazon or Nike might buy the company and those that have pushed for the sale of Peloton continued to do so this week.

Activist investor Blackwells Capital asked again for the company to be sold Tuesday despite the change in leadership.

Blackwells sent a presentation to Peloton on Monday outlining “the mismanagement of the company by John Foley, the poor governance and board composition and the rationale for immediately commencing a sale process.”

In addition to the leadership shakeup, Peloton announced Tuesday that it was cutting 2,800 jobs, including approximately 20 percent of corporate jobs at the New York City company. The instructors who lead interactive classes for Peloton will not be included in cuts, nor will the content that the company relies on to lure users.

Peloton said its winding down the development of its Peloton Output Park in Ohio. It will also reduce its owned and operated warehousing and delivery locations and will instead ramp up its third-party relationships.

Peloton is looking to reduce its planned capital expenditures for this year by about $150 million. The restructuring program is expected to result in approximately $130 million in cash charges related to severance and other exit and restructuring activities and $80 million in non-cash charges. The majority of the charges will be recorded in fiscal 2022.

The company also slashed its full-year sales outlook and now expects a range of $3.7 billion to $3.8 billion. That’s down from a prior range of $4.4 billion to $4.8 billion, which it announced last November. It originally had expected $5.4 billion.

The tech billionaire, who has been on the board of the company formerly known as Facebook since 2005, is backing numerous politicians in the midterm elections.

Peter Thiel, one of the longest-serving board members of Meta, the parent of Facebook, plans to step down, the company said on Monday.

Mr. Thiel, 54, wants to focus on influencing November’s midterm elections, said a person with knowledge of Mr. Thiel’s thinking who declined to be identified. Mr. Thiel sees the midterms as crucial to changing the direction of the country, this person said, and he is backing candidates who support the agenda of former President Donald J. Trump.

Over the last year, Mr. Thiel, who has a net worth estimated at $2.6 billion by Forbes, has become one of the Republican’s Party’s largest donors. He gave $10 million each last year to the campaigns of two protégés, Blake Masters, who is running for a Senate seat in Arizona, and J.D. Vance, who is running for Senate in Ohio.

Mr. Thiel has been on Meta’s board since 2005, when Facebook was a tiny start-up and he was one of its first institutional investors. But scrutiny of Mr. Thiel’s position on the board has steadily increased as the company was embroiled in political controversies, including barring Mr. Trump from the platform, and as the venture capitalist has become more politically active.

The departure means Meta loses its board’s most prominent conservative voice. The 10-member board has undergone significant changes in recent years, as many of its members have left and been replaced, often with Silicon Valley entrepreneurs. Drew Houston, the chief executive of Dropbox, joined Facebook’s board in 2020, and Tony Xu, the founder of DoorDash, joined it last month. Meta didn’t address whether it intends to replace Mr. Thiel.

The company, which recently marked its 18th birthday, is undertaking a shift toward the so-called metaverse, which its chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, believes is the next generation of the internet. Mr. Thiel first met Mr. Zuckerberg 18 years ago when he provided the entrepreneur with $500,000 in capital for Facebook, valuing the company at $4.9 million. Arizona AG says state can cite ‘invasion’ to deport migrants without feds

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich claims in a new legal opinion that Republican Gov. Doug Ducey can declare the Grand Canyon State to be under “invasion” in order to begin deporting suspected illegal immigrants — but Ducey appears reluctant to do so.

The approach would theoretically allow Arizona to break with the Biden administration and start turning away people at the US-Mexico border, where officials made approximately 1.9 million arrests last year.

“The federal government’s failure to secure the border and protect Arizona from invasion is dangerous and unprecedented,” Brnovich wrote. “Thankfully, the Founders foresaw that States might need to protect themselves from invasion and made clear in the Constitution that States retain the sovereign power to defend themselves within their own territory.”

Republican Arizona state Rep. Jake Hoffman requested the opinion, which was published Monday night, after former Trump administration officials Ken Cuccinelli and Russ Vought proposed last year that border states like Arizona dust off an obscure provision in the Constitution to address the border crisis

Cuccinelli, a former acting deputy director of the Department of Homeland Security, and former White House budget director Vought — now the president of the conservative nonprofit Center for Renewing America — met with Brnovich and members of his staff last month.

“The violence and lawlessness at the border caused by transnational cartels and gangs satisfies the definition of an ‘invasion’ under the U.S. Constitution, and Arizona therefore has the power to defend itself from this invasion under the Governor’s authority as Commander-in-Chief,” Brnovich wrote. “An actual invasion permits the State to engage in defensive actions within its own territory at or near its border.”

Cuccinelli told The Post that “this obviously turns attention now not just to Gov. Ducey in Arizona — though that’s the logical first place — but over to Texas and people asking, ‘Well, why don’t you do this?'”

Shares of SPAC CF Acquisition Corp. VI (NASDAQ:CFVI), which is slated to merge with video platform Rumble, were up 6% Tuesday morning amid ongoing speculation that popular podcaster Joe Rogan might join Rumble.

CFVI shares recently changed hands at $15.95 at approximately 11:15 a.m. ET. Shares rallied on Monday on the Rogan speculation, shooting up 40% to $18.52 in afternoon trading before closing at $15.09, up 14%.

Rumble, which has been billed as an alternative to YouTube, made news Monday when its chief executive officer publicly offered Rogan a $100M contract over four years to move his show to the video platform. Rogan’s podcast is currently carried by Spotify (NYSE:SPOT).

CFVI announced in December that it planned to take Rumble public through a merger deal that valued the video platform at $2.1B. The merger is expected to close in the second quarter.

Rumble’s stock rallied in December after it announced that it had signed a deal with former President Trump’s new social media platform TRUTH Social, which is being taken public by Digital World Acquisition (NASDAQ:DWAC).

US Approves $100 Million Military Deal for Taiwan’s Patriot Air Defense System

TAIPEI, Taiwan—The United States has approved a potential $100 million sale of equipment and services to boost the island’s Patriot missile defense system, amid China’s increasing aggression against the self-ruled island.

The money would be used to “sustain, maintain, and improve” the missile defense system, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement on Feb. 7.

“This proposed sale serves U.S. national, economic, and security interests by supporting the recipient’s continuing efforts to modernize its armed forces and to maintain a credible defensive capability,” DSCA said.

The agency added, “The proposed sale will help improve the security of the recipient and assist in maintaining political stability, military balance, economic and progress in the region.”

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) sees Taiwan as part of its territory that must be united with the mainland, by force if necessary. However, internationally, Taiwan is widely recognized as a de facto independent body, given that it has been governed as a separate entity for more than seven decades.

In light of its ambitions toward Taiwan and the broader Asia–Pacific region, Beijing has been engaged in an aggressive program of military modernization.

U.S. military officials and China experts have given different timelines as to when China might attack Taiwan.

In March 2021, Adm. Philip Davidson, who was then-head of U.S. Indo–Pacific Command, told a Senate hearing that the Chinese regime could invade Taiwan in the “next six years.” Weeks later, Davidson’s successor at the Command, Adm. John Aquilino, testified in front of another Senate hearing that China might attack Taiwan sooner “than most think.”

Currently, the United States has no formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan, ever since Washington changed its diplomatic recognition in favor of Beijing in 1979. However, the two sides have enjoyed a robust relationship based on the Taiwan Relations Act, a law that authorizes the United States to provide the island with military equipment for self-defense.

DSCA also said that the main contractors for the sale would be U.S. defense giants Raytheon Technologies and Lockheed Martin.

Beijing has reacted angrily to the sale. On Feb. 8, Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, condemned the pending sale and demanded Washington to revoke the deal immediately during a daily briefing, according to China’s state-run media.

Also on Tuesday, Taiwan’s foreign ministry said it “highly welcomed” the U.S. decision in a statement.

Biden’s First Year Sees Biggest Ever Trade Deficit

[Former Senator] Joe Biden’s first year in office has not only seen inflation run at the fastest pace in four decades. It has also seen the trade deficit expand to the widest import-export gap on record.

The trade deficit of goods and services grew by 1.8 percent in December to a seasonally adjusted $80.7 billion, the Commerce Department said Tuesday, slightly less than the record deficit of $80.8 billion reached in September.

The full-year trade deficit for 2021 increased 27 percent to $859.1 billion, passing the previous record of $763.53 billion set in 2006. Commerce Department records go back to 1960.

The sharp increase comes from a U.S. economy stricken with a weakened manufacturing sector that could not expand to match consumer demand as the country emerged from the pandemic. American consumers spent heavily on goods which in past decades would have expanded U.S. production but now fuels imports.

Stimulus checks and other forms of government aid increased incomes in the U.S. during the pandemic but much of that wound up in the tills of foreign manufacturers, particularly those in China. This income leakage due to the record-high trade deficit puts pressure on the U.S. budget, requiring the government to take on more debt to prevent private sector income from contracting. Exports subtract from the official measure of Gross Domestic Product.

Imports rose 1.6 percent to $308.9 billion in the final month of the year, contributing to the ongoing crunch as U.S. ports.

The trade deficit with China jumped 14.5 percent for the full year to $355.3 billion. That was still below the record high deficit hit in 2018.

Total imports of goods rose to $2.85 trillion in 2021 and imported services rose to $535 billion. Exports rose to $2.528 trillion, slightly above the 2019 level.

Detroit (Detroit News) -— The Ambassador Bridge has reopened to U.S.-bound traffic after a protest by Canadian truck drivers had closed it for nearly a day, Windsor police said.

The news comes after the protest against COVID-19 mandates and restrictions in Canada spread Monday across the Canadian border with the U.S., sparking traffic delays. The traffic blocking convoy, the first sign demonstrations could affect the United States.

The bridge to Canada in Detroit eventually shut down by nightfall, the Michigan Department of Transportation tweeted at 8:50 p.m. Canada later listed the bridge as "temporarily closed.''

MDOT said early Tuesday the bridge remained closed on the U.S. side.

The backups at what is touted as the nation's busiest international border crossing sparked concern among transportation leaders about the impact amid COVID-led supply chain and staffing shortages on Michigan businesses relying on transported goods.

"Any delay or disruption in the supply chain creates problems, not just for agriculture but the state economy," said Chuck Lippstreu, president of the Michigan Agri-Business Association, which represents businesses that support farmers.

The protest follows rallies over opposition to vaccine mandates and other restrictions in cities across Canada in a show of solidarity with a demonstration in Ottawa that has gone on for more than a week by the so-called Freedom Truck Convoy.

The protests paralyzed the Canadian capital's business district and led the mayor to call for 2,000 extra police officers to quell the nightly demonstrations.

Canadian Left Accuses Justin Trudeau of Leaving ‘Leadership Void’ After Vanishing to ‘Undisclosed Location’

Far-left Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is facing mounting frustration in his side of the political aisle for failing to act in the face of growing “Freedom Convoy” protests against coronavirus-related mandates – frustration he tried to stem by making a last-minute appearance in Parliament on Monday night.

Trudeau announced that he had tested positive for Chinese coronavirus on January 31 and that he would be recovering in an undisclosed location. The announcement immediately preceded the arrival of a “Freedom Convoy” of trucks into Ottawa, where they have been parked since, honking in protest and demanding an end to vaccine mandates, mask mandates, and all restrictions on civil rights imposed by the Trudeau government in the name of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

The Ottawa protest has been, according to police, largely peaceful, attracting families and creating a party atmosphere in the city’s downtown. The prime minister emerged once during his quarantine to broadcast remarks from his undisclosed hideout dismissing the protesters as deranged, racist conspiracy theorists.

“The concerns expressed by a few people gathered in Ottawa, right now, are not new, not surprising, are heard, but are a continuation of what we’ve unfortunately seen in disinformation and misinformation, online conspiracy theorists, about microchips, about God knows what else that go with tinfoil hats,” Trudeau rambled early on in his isolation period.

Trudeau made few comments and announced no policy to deal with the protests – which have spread beyond Ottawa to Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, and several points along Canada’s southern border – prior to his last-minute appearance in Parliament on Monday. The Toronto Star observed that Trudeau offered the Canadian people “nearly four full days of silence” before resurfacing in Ottawa.

Trudeau used the opportunity on Monday to repeatedly associate the entirety of the anti-mandate protests with “swastikas” and demand that the protest movement “has to stop.” He again refused to discuss meeting with protesters or addressing any of their concerns.

The prime minister’s stance on the protests have naturally irked conservatives, but his appearance Monday did little to stem growing complaints on the left that he has no plan to end what leftists consider a “crisis” in the government’s relationship with the Canadian people. Among those concerned is communist leader of the New Democratic Party Jagmeet Singh, who called Monday night’s Parliament meeting and lamented that Trudeau has simply “not been visible” during the affair.

The defining news story of February 2022 so far has been the saga of Joe Rogan and Spotify (NYSE:SPOT). Customers, musicians and politicians have gotten in on the spat, and SPOT stock is now down 25% in the year to date. As Spotify struggles to pick up the pieces, a competitor has identified a clear market opportunity. Rumble wants Rogan to join its ranks. Although nothing is official yet, this has been good news for its blank-check partner, CF Acquisition VI (NASDAQ:CFVI). CFVI stock has been trading well so far as speculation swirls.

What’s Happening With CFVI Stock

This morning, Rumble tweeted a photo of an offer addressed to Rogan. It made clear that the platform wanted him to join its ranks — and it didn’t care about the controversy that followed him.

While SPOT stock has fallen today, CFVI stock is rising steadily. As of this writing, it is up more than 35% on the day and shows no signs of slowing down. Shares are up more than 42% for the past month.

Why It Matters

Spotify’s crisis is truly Rumble’s opportunity. The video sharing platform wants to be the YouTube that appeals to those American conservative and libertarian thinkers who applaud its anti-censorship stance. This business model has served it well so far. Not only that, it makes it the perfect platform for Rogan.

Additionally, as the letter shows, Rumble has offered to pay up $100 million over four years for Rogan.

That should give Rogan real incentive to consider the offer. Rumble is home to many conservative thinkers. Earlier this year, an endorsement from Republican Sen. Rand Paul boosted CFVI stock. The addition of Rogan, though, could push it up much further. There’s a reason that Rumble’s leaders have offered the host so much much money. They know exactly what he could do for their platform.

What It Means

As of now, Rogan has not made any statements on the offer from Rumble. The Globe and Mail reported that Rogan once commented on Rumble in a podcast, saying that he expected the platform to keep growing.

There’s plenty of reason to believe that Rumble may soon have its own Joe Rogan experience, although, exactly what kind is unclear. If the host decides to accept the offer, CFVI stock will see significant growth in the year ahead.
