How the FBI Concealed Its Involvement in a Plot to Alter the Outcome of the 2008 Election, Elect John McCain
On November 26, 2008, 10 terrorists took the lives of 166 guests of the Taj hotel, a symbol of decadence in India that had been in the sights of Pakistani terrorists since 2005. What got substantially less attention was an additional plot that ran parallel to the Mumbai attack that was meant to target Penn Station in New York City on October 28, 2008, just a week prior to election day. Did Pakistani terrorists really wish to attack the United States? Who wanted to hit Penn Station, particularly so close to an upcoming election?
We have had the answer for some time, but did not want to release it given that Donald Trump could have benefited from any information that demonized his long-time rival, John McCain. With Donald Trump now an afterthought, in the interests of making the truth known, the time has come to reveal additional information concerning the failed Penn Station plot.
In January 2009, it was reported that one Bryan Neal Vinas was arrested in Pakistan by the Pakistani authorities and was extradited to the United States for his role in plotting the attack. According to publicly available information, he met a figure named Najibullah Zazi over the summer of 2008 while in Pakistan. It is most likely at this juncture where he came to the attention of the individual most often considered the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks, one Dawood Galani, aka David Coleman Headley.
To understand this failed plot, one has to understand Headley and his history as an informant to the DEA and as a heroin addict. Headley, long known as a snitch who, in exchange for leniency in a drug case, became a DEA informant. Given his connection to Pakistan and the fact he was a practicing Muslim, he was approached by the American government with an offer to become a different kind of informant within days after the 9/11 attacks. Headley agreed to supply the U.S. with valuable information concerning the internal structure of terrorist groups, particularly those in Pakistan and those with cells in the United States.
One of Headley’s sub-specialties was in forging or illegally obtaining legitimate visa documents for those wishing to travel in and out of Pakistan as well as the United States. Having grown up in Pakistan with his father under the name Galani, he had a close relationship with someone he considered his “adoptive sister” with the family name Rana. According to a Frontline report on PBS dating to November 22, 2011, “For years, the Ranas had been operating an immigration company… it specialized in getting foreign professionals U.S. worker visas.” https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/david-headley/
While Headley spent a great deal of time in Chicago, his biological mother resided in Philadelphia subsequent to her divorce from his father with whom he lived in Pakistan for most of his childhood. His mother, unwilling to tolerate his father taking additional wives, returned to the United States without her son, who at the time preferred being with his father. Eventually, he changed his mind and requested assistance from his biological mother to finance a flight to travel to the United States, a country in which he was only a citizen because of his mother’s citizenship. Prior to this, he had never stepped foot in the United States. Consequently, he spent a fair deal of time in Philadelphia and was familiar with the area. His mother owned a bar at 2nd and Chestnut called The Khyber Pass which still exists to this day.
