Wonder if this just additional evidence they were preparing for COVID-1984?
In 2018 they doubled the Standard deduction on federal income taxes with the passing of the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act". At the time everyone thought it was just POTUS helping drop taxes. However, one of the additional facets of that legislation was that you can no longer take a home office deduction even if you've been working from home for an entire year from COVID-19. COVID-19 was never part of this bill (2018 < 2020), but the impact of this law (good through 2025) has to be massive. The number of people working in a home office grew by orders of magnitude almost overnight and with that the highly variable and hard-to-audit deductions for a home office. This bill effectively side-stepped a massive paperwork snarl for the IRS and potentially addressed what could have been an incredible loss of taxes for this period. Might be worth a dig to quantify, but may be additional supporting evidence of fore-knowledge.
