Accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was found injured and in a fetal position in his cell at a Manhattan jail on Wednesday, according to sources cited by NBC News. Investigators are reportedly still trying to get to the bottom of what happened, but the wealthy sex offender was said to have been semi-conscious when he was found.

After initially being put into the general population at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, Epstein had been moved to solitary protective custody after other inmates had threatened him, a source familiar with his conditions had previously told The Daily Beast.

Two sources cited by NBC said he may have attempted to hang himself, while another source suggested the injuries were so minor that he may have simply been trying to get himself transferred. An assault has also not been ruled out, with a fourth source saying a former police officer serving time on drug and murder charges has been questioned.

The New York Post, quoting sources, said Epstein had injuries to his neck.

Epstein’s lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Epstein has been locked up at the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center since he was arrested July 6 after arriving back in the United States from France.

He asked to be released on bail and put on house arrest at his $77 million Manhattan mansion, offering to pay for security cameras and armed guards and to let a “trustee” live there with him.

But U.S. District Judge Richard Berman shot down the request earlier this week, finding that Epstein was a flight risk and unable to control his sexual urges. Epstein’s team has since filed papers to appeal that decision.

Convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was found in his cell on Tuesday nearly unconscious with injuries to his neck after a possible suicide attempt, sources said.

Epstein was discovered by guards sprawled out on the floor at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, where he’s being held without bail on sex-trafficking charges, according to law enforcement sources.

The billionaire financier was taken to a nearby hospital.

It’s unclear how Epstein suffered his neck injuries.

Investigators believe Epstein may have done it to himself either on purpose or as a ploy to get transferred out of the jail, sources said.

It was also possible that Epstein was attacked by another inmate, the sources added.

Epstein was busted July 6 on sex-trafficking and conspiracy charges for allegedly sexually abusing underage girls at his Manhattan townhouse and his $12 million estate in Palm Beach, Fla., between 2002 and 2005.

He’s pleaded not guilty to the charges and appealed a judge’s decision to keep him behind bars pending a trial.

WHITE PLAINS — Federal correction officers found an illicit cellular phone in the cell of an ex-cop charged with killing four Middletown men, according to federal court documents.

Nicholas Tartaglione, 51, a former Briarcliff Manor police officer who lived on Old Mountain Road near Otisville, faces 17 federal counts, including four counts of murder in furtherance of a narcotics conspiracy. Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

The charges stem from the April 2016 deaths of Martin Santos-Luna, 41; his nephews Urbano Morales-Santiago, 35, and Miguel Sosa-Luna, 25; and friend Hector Gutierrez, 32. Prosecutors say that Tartaglione believed that Santos-Luna had taken money meant for a large cocaine deal, and that Tartaglione and others lured Santos-Luna to the Likquid Lounge in Chester, where he was killed. Prosecutors say that Sosa-Luna, Morales-Santiago and Gutierrez were innocent bystanders with no knowledge of the drugs, and that they were taken to Tartaglione's property near Otisville and killed.

According to a letter prosecutors filed on Monday, corrections staff at the New York Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan saw Tartaglione holding a mini cellular phone in his hand on July 3 while in his cell. Tartaglione told staff that his cellmate had tossed the phone to him as the officers approached. Federal prosecutors said they intend to seek a search warrant to examine the phone's contents, and have the Bureau of Prisons to transfer the phone to FBI custody. They said they need clarification on whether Tartaglione still contests ownership of the mini-phone, which may only be capable of making voice calls

Tartaglione lawyers Bruce Barket, Aida Leisenring, Anthony Ricco and Bruce Koffsky wrote a letter Friday to federal Judge Kenneth Karas, saying there could be privileged material in communications stored on the phone. They asked the judge to require not just a search warrant, but also to designate a "filter team" or "taint team," members of the U.S. Attorney's Office, to isolate potentially privileged information from the trial prosecutors until the judge rules on the issue.

Barket said Monday that the defense team is not conceding that the phone belonged to Tartaglione, but filed the request as a precaution to protect his rights.

Tartaglione's case was in White Plains federal court on Monday for a conference, unrelated to the phone issue. His next conference is Aug. 21.

Tartaglione's codefendant, Joseph Biggs, 57, of Spring Valley, faces the same charges, but there has been little public action on his case.

So, what exactly did change? Only the sharing capabilities. Prior to the amendment, the NSA would filter the data before fulfilling any requests from the other government agencies. That means they would search and evaluate the data, use minimization procedures to protect information of innocent American citizens, and pass along the only the portions of emails and phone calls they deemed relevant to the request. NSA was in complete control of the raw data. Who was in charge of the NSA at the time? Admiral Mike Rogers.

The amendment didn't change anything about the raw data collection, but it put in place procedures that would have NSA share raw unminimized sigint with the other Intelligence Community agencies. Unminimized, meaning that all 16 IC agencies would have innocent citizens' personal data at their fingertips. Now, that is limited to only certain raw data, specifically for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence.

What investigations do we know of that were ongoing during this time period? Crossfire Hurricane? Hmmm. Carter Page -a foreign agent according to the FISA? Counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign, then administration?

My opinion, the amendment was rushed through before Hussein left office so that the Deep State actors entrenched in our government could continue their spying efforts (and bypass Adm. Rogers at NSA) and enable their coup of our duly elected President.

Interesting article, though, I hadn't seen that. It's a tough issue to tackle, and I can see the pros and cons. Obviously, law enforcement should be able to investigate crimes, including being able to access encrypted data/devices. On the other hand, I'm not sure there is any way backdoors could be added for law enforcement ONLY, and be kept secure from hackers. Seems like when it comes to technology the criminals are always a step ahead of the cops and the Feds.
