The writing is shit. No jokes. Characters are boring. The VA's all sound off. Songs are generic as fuck.

Might as well be watching g3.5. Are these the people who are going to make g5?

I’m notoriously bad with ratings, usually giving episodes well below 5/10, but this is quite the exception. 10/10, comfy viewing.

I don’t know, this episode was just so wholesome. No controversy, no big adventure with lots of action, all of the characters got on so well with each other and acted like their old selves, etc, just comfy viewing in general.

Yeah nothing really happened, and you I can understand why you’d call that boring. But for me this was more like cuddling up on the couch with a cute mare and some hot chocolate in winter. Yeah nothing happened, but nothing needed to happen, I was just happy to be snuggling with some cute poner.

Again I usually shit all over episodes, abs never shut up about how much I hate them, or how out of character everyone was, etc. But this was just comfy, it didn’t try to impress me or shake things up like every other episode, and because of that it did.

Just comfy pone, and who could argue with that? I.E. This episode was pic related for me.

Also this. This episode worked so well because it in no way involved any of the new elements in the show. This could have easily been a pre-Twicorn special if you removed Twilights wings, but did nothing else.

I don't mind simple and comfy, but this had nothing redeeming.

No funny jokes.

No interesting character interactions.

Nothing interesting for them to do.

No other interesting characters.

The only reason this entire special exists is because of one new toy set unrelated to anything else in the show.

Not every episode has to have amazing character development or an interesting or complex plot, some episodes can just be comfy for the sake of being comfy. You can’t build a compelling show around that, but as a one off special in an otherwise compelling show (implying that recent MLP is in any way compelling) it can be a nice break.

Funnily enough, what with the cutesy-look of the toonboom models, there were instances, namely the bit where Twilight tells Applejack to shut up and turn on the generator, that felt like they tore it straight from NAS. It was surreal.

IIRC, Thiessen was supposed to consistently direct or produce it, but otherwise the same company who made this flick, Boulder Media Limited, is supposed to do the new series. I don't know if Meghan was supposed to work on it as well.
