…are now canon in the show. They first appeared in the books and were subtly implied to be gay. Then, one of the show's fagloving writers confirmed that, yes, they were gay. And now, they finally appeared in the show as Scootaloo's caretakers.
Like the legend of korra's lesbian ending. Like adventure time's alluding to how marceline and bubblegum were a gay couple once. Like steven universe's gay fusion character. Like how star vs the forces of evil turned that skater chick into a lesbo with a black frenchie. Like all of those examples, this mlp episode (season 9, episode 12's The Last Crusade) is just another sly nod to include gay shit into kid's shows.

I almost forgot to write down their names.
The redhead aunt is Aunt Holiday.
The blue-haired aunt is Aunt Lofty.
Scootaloo's sexy mom is Mane Allgood, and her dad is Snap Shutter. I find it a bit weird that Scootaloo's married parents don't share the same last name (like Mr. and Mrs. Cake do), but whatever.

That's actually been a common thing for married couples on the show; the Cakes are one of the few exceptions.

What bugs me more than even the lesbaunts, is the episode pussying out of forcing Scootaloo to move out of ponyville.
Friends moving away, or having to move away yourself, is something I suspect most kids go through at least once, if not more times. Teaching kids how to deal with that would be a worthy morale for a show.
Same goes for the chicken having to deal with being an orphan and the shit they have to deal with. Nah, fuck it, lesbaunts mean we don't have to deal with complicated shit like that.

I'm so glad this shitshow is almost over. It's like watching an old friend on his death bed, and he's degraded to the point where he's just constantly shitting himself and cursing insensibly at you. Please just die already, watching you hurts too much but I have to do it.

Nightlight + Twilight Velvet = Shining Armor
Bow Hothoof + Windy Whistles = Top Cunt
Hondo Flanks + Cookie Crumbles = Rarity + Sweetie Belle
Igneous Rock + Cloudy Quartz = The pie sisters
Bright Mac + Pear Butter = Applejack
Stormy Flare = Spitfire
I'm not sure where you got this "ponies have family names like humans do" thing comes from.
The closest equestria seems to get is theme naming for families and possibly the McColts and the Hooffields.

I guess you're right. I'm not sure why I assumed that in the first place. It's probably just a case of two unmarried lovers who, by coincidence, just happen to have the same last name before they got married. Like a guy named John Smith having a girlfriend named Jane Smith, even though they aren't married yet.
Mr. Cake and Mrs. Cake
Mr. Shy and Mrs. Shy

Actually, Cup Cake's maiden name is/was Chiffon Swirl. And Spoiled Rich used to be Spoiled Milk. Sometimes mares do change their names to better suit their husbands'.

Actually the family name thing is one of the things the show is pretty inconsistent about. They repeatedly refer to the "Apple" family and the "Pie" family, as well as the "Pear" family, but as you pointed out the majority of pony families don't share a common last name. It's further confused by things like Pinkie's full name being "Pinkamena Diane Pie" suggesting that their names follow the same convention as humans. It's almost like the show is being written by people who don't care that much about it and have no problem introducing inconsistencies into the story in order to pull off a gag or a story for a single episode.

I suspect its just that, like the Apple family, its not about sharing a family name, so much as its about sharing a name theme in the family.
Like the Cakes, maybe its traditional for ponies to change names when marrying, to create a shared theme for their family.
Its also possible that traditions change between the tribes, so while mud ponies take family names, since their simple minds can't handle having to use too many names at a time, while proper Unicorns prefer using given names with no family relation for their whole lives.

Humans outside the nobility used to not have hereditary names either, they just had an individual first name along with something like Smith or Cooper that indicated what they did, that eventually became hereditary. It's possible that since ponies clearly have some sort of hierarchical society that they would have something similar, where the pony is identified by an individual name that may also vaguely suggest their role in society, and hereditary family names just don't exist, or exist by accident where they do. I still tend to think the phenomenon is mostly just the product of shoddy world building, though.

And even then a lot of nobles don't have surnames either or their surnames are just indications of what place they rule over. Like when Harry and William were at Sandhurst, they were Cadet Wales because they're the sons of the Prince of Wales. Confusingly, some have an actual surname, but are often referred to by the region/place they control/ed.

I think they have both but formality usually dictates that their titles/place names are used instead of surnames in certain situations.
