Oulu (City in Finland) elderly rapist strikes again
A man previously convicted of aggravated rape is once again accused of a sexual offense.
Nahom Hagos raped an elderly woman in the laundry room of an apartment building in 2019. He is now facing new rape charges.
The charge was filed at the Oulu District Court on February 5, 2025, with the case scheduled for hearing next week.
Hagos was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for aggravated rape in early 2020.
He was released on parole in January 2022. Since his release, Hagos has been convicted of thefts.
Hagos also repeatedly violated the conditions of his parole supervision. In June 2024, Iltalehti (Finnish newspaper) reported that Hagos consistently failed to attend supervision meetings without a valid reason.
The court found that Hagos’s actions demonstrated clear disregard for the proper execution of his sentence and sentenced him to 14 days in prison.
Violent Rape
The sexual crime that shocked the entire nation took place in the laundry room of an Oulu apartment building on October 14, 2019. At the time, 22-year-old Hagos raped an 86-year-old woman, threatening her with a bladed weapon and using violence.
The victim, among other injuries, suffered a broken rib. Despite her injuries, the elderly victim managed to inform a relative, who called the emergency services.
Police apprehended the then-20-something rapist near the apartment building shortly after the crime.
The man had lived in the building for only a short time. The incident caused widespread feelings of insecurity in Oulu at the time.
Hagos is believed to still reside in the Oulu area. He has directed his mail to the Oulu guardianship office.
