There's already a thread up noting the plausible cause - USAID ran out for 4chan so the homosexual redditors (yes all the mods are gay or adjacent AND have Reddit accounts) stopped getting paid and rather than letting it just become unmoderated and BASED as FUCK, they decided to shut it down but gave everybody a nice fun story in the end. 10.0.0.0/8 is not routable over the public Internet, it's reserved for use in private networks, as per RFC1918. This means that 10.0.0.19 was "local" (LAN) side, relative to the server. If there was a VPN server of some sort running on the server, it may have even been the 4chan webserver's LAN IP address.
Whoever took 4chan down had root access on the webserver. With that, they could have disabled all logging of their own actions, cleared all the previously existing logs that may have captured what they did exactly to exploit the server and gain access, and then installed a VPN service on the webserver itself, also with all logging disabled.
If these people were connected through that, the only way to have found the actual IP's they were connecting from would have been to run a netstat on the server while they were connected, and even then, most of them would have just been connecting via another VPN or proxy server anyway, so you most likely still wouldn't get their actual IP, just the IP address of their VPN or proxy.

It was definitely a controlled shutdown. We threatened their plans. It's quite possible that it's about Iran. But the good criticism of Trump, Musk or the poo wave etc also often originated with us. Also, not quite correct… Doesn't mean they were on the same subnet, just that they weren't routed directly over the public Internet, but rather via something local to the 4chan server at the last hop, eg. a VPN server, proxy server, SSH tunnel, etc. that was either on the same subnet, or a locally routable one.
Eg. You can have a 10.0.0.0/24 subnet, isolated entirely on its own VLAN, and also a 172.16.0.0/16 subnet, also isolated entirely on its own VLAN, but if you enable Inter-VLAN routing, traffic between the two subnets will work just fine.

Yes. Thank you. Anyway I guess I was trying to say from what I understand, that they had some sort of non-global IP which means they used some method to get onto a non-routable local IP address. Which IIRC applies to 10.x.x.x and 127.x.x.x so you can have big internal networks then a gateway to the broader internet. As far as I understand it.
I'm sorry if I got the exact details wrong but it's interesting, they were clearly all part of a certain organization or else they wouldn't all wind up with the same non-routable IP address.

Basically correct. 127.x.x.x is reserved for local loopback addressing. 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12 and 192.168.0.0/16 are reserved for use in private networks as per RFC1918.
There are other IP address ranges that can be used in private networks, though, eg. 100.64.0.0/10 (officially designated as 'shared' IP address space for use in CG-NAT deployments), or 169.254.0.0/16 (APIPA - when DHCP is enabled, but fails to receive an address).
There are a bunch of other IPv4 address ranges that could be used in private networks, even if they're not really supposed to be, because they're not routable over the public Internet.
