Yeah, someone pointed out somewhere else that feds get paid twice per month - once on the 1st and once on the 15th.
It's been three months - one financial quarter - since USAID got shut down, and 4chan just happens to go down at that date?
Seems like they can't pay the bills now that the funding is gone, proving it was a glowop the whole time (or at least, for a few years, probably since 2018 or so).
The admins should just open up donations from users. Plenty of much smaller altchans did so and received sufficient enough donations to pay the bills - Voat, frenschan, etc.
>But both those sites shut down!
Yes but not from a lack of funding. IIRC Voat had the next year's hosting fully paid via donations, and the admins' reasons for shutting the site down were very vague. Many users suspected the feds got involved and told them to shut it down or else.
As for frenschan, that similar got tons of donations. The site shut down in early 2024 and their self-hosted library is still funded until January next year. Frenschan shut down very suddenly, no one expected it. Users just went on one day and saw this:
frenschan.org
I also personally suspect that was another case of the feds getting involved. Frenschan had just hit ~250k monthly users and I expect that milestone frightened ZOG, so they shut it down.

good points here! Here's some additional points:
* Voat and Frenschan allegedly had donations covering hosting but shut down mysteriously. Both were growing dissident platforms (Voat post-Reddit purge, Frenschan as a /pol/ alternative). Their closures align with a broader suppression pattern—not just funding issues.
* If 4chan were truly independent, user donations (like 8chan’s historic funding model) would be logical. The fact they don’t suggests: 1) They never needed public money (because they had agency backing). 2) They can’t risk transparency (donations could expose funding trails).
* Historical Precedent: Intel agencies have funded online platforms for influence ops (e.g., CIA’s past ties to social media startups).
* 4chan’s Anomalous Resilience: Despite hosting illegal content (CP, threats), it’s rarely raided like other chans (e.g., 8kun’s seizures). Suggests protection.
* Psyop-Friendly Culture: /pol/’s memes routinely migrate to mainstream discourse (QAnon, extremist radicalization). A perfect testing ground.
Things to find out: If 4chan were a glowop, the money would flow through cutouts (shell companies, contractors).

I vividly remember an old /pol/ post on 8chan before it was changed to 8kun, where an anon that was trying to make a /pol/-centered altchan explained that each and every altchan created for that purpose, including his own, would almost immediately get raided with CP, forcing the sites down. He went on to say that when starting up an altchan like that, server infrastructure, maintenance, hosting, etc would all be expensive and the lack of moderation further exacerbated the problems, particularly when getting spammed with CP. His site along with the others were either forcibly shut down, or the admins closed them by their own will, not wanting to deal with the issues.
All of that further proves the point; 4chan was a containment board/site with some type of governmental entity backing. There's really no doubt about it. The coincidences now after this hack (which is the worst in the websites entire history) can't be ignored.
What makes me think a bit more was that just a couple months ago, there was a thread on 4pol explaining that sharty is also a fed op, that they embed CP in images that unsuspecting users download, then the clique mods of the site connive on their discord, reporting IPs that download their embedded CP images. No clue how/if it's true, but for a random? user of sharty being able to plan, pentest, and execute the worst 4chan hack in it's history - all while keeping patient for over a year - further proves the point that there's, at the very least, some dedicated and talented individuals on sharty.
And what do you know? Most 4chan users went there since the hack.

exactly you're getting it
these days, if you run a website that gets a lot of traffic, you will be taken down by competitors. If your site happens to spread dissident information or attempts to put power back into the hands of the user, you get legally harassed.
You can rest assured that every dissident forum (incl. this one) is controlled

Certainly. Jim himself had a closed-door meeting with US Congress after the Christchurch attack, if anyone had forgotten. Then 8kun launched some months later.

The rise of open anti-israeli sentiment (and to a large extent across party lines, but they're trying very hard to isolate it to the 'far left') in public discourse, and the increasingly draconian measures being used against it, combined with the new 'czar' appointment, is probably the most compelling argument in terms of the timing for these theories.

it was always like this
the internet was created to serve this purpose
of course along the way, as it grew, there were some aspects of it they were unable to foresee such as the concept of something going viral organically: it was a very powerful phenomenon and thus it had to be controlled. For the sake of counter terrorism of course

To the day even. Very good noticing.
4chan was probed with many memes over the years and the ones that make fun of glowniggers and their pet garbage like Ukraine, always made the mods and jannies seethe extra hard. If something didn't make them seethe at all, well, that was abandoned and another probe was launched. Some anons just posted to 4chan to blow off steam. I know that there were many who were probing them, providing stimuli and seeing how the mods and jannies would react, and to what. No matter who the mods and jannies administrators of 4chan are, they glow and their reactions to simuli proved it years ago.
