You cannot possibly know what's going through their heads. Trying to figure out why they are like this is a waste of time and is certain to make you ill.
Being in this position, that room, that whole situation is cursed. Of course, the person on trial or introducing a new idea will be persecuted; it's human nature and inevitable. Stay away from these situations and be done with it.
