Germany rejects US call to join Gulf taskforce
>Germany has rejected US pressure to send warships to protect shipping in the Persian Gulf from seizure by Iran. At the beginning of the last century, Germany had a plan for a railway through Turkey to the region, which was something the British could not tolerate. The cars in Iran may be French, but until recently the bridges and trains tended to be German. In WW2 again, the Turks were supposed to attack Baku, if I remember well.
