How does /pnd/ feel about the Belgium hero of the SS Léon Degrelle? After escaping to Spain after the war, he not only never renounced his beliefs but used all his strength and abilities to spread the message of what they fought for. He was truly a hero in the crusade against Judeo-Bolshevism and was wounded 7 times in action. He was also one of the most highly decorated foreign volunterrs of the war.

Here is Degrelle in Spain wearing his white Falangist dress uniform with his German military decorations as he would sometimes do at events there. He was truly a hero and never surrendered the colors of the SS Walloonie division, being buried with them when he died in 1994.

I honestly quite like the guy. I've read his memoirs, Hitler For Thousand Years recently and it was honestly a great read. Fair look at Hitler and other leaders of the Reich, including some criticism. Great description of the Eastern Front and a fair opinion on why it failed. I totally recommend to read it.
It was kinda sad to see him feeling forgotten and pushed to total obscurity after the war. He saw national socialism as something of the past, movement that made a great impact and yet was a product of the times.

With gold reserves exhausted, the National Socialist administration had to create an
alternative source of purchasing power. Despite objections from Hjalmar Schacht, president of the
Reich’s Bank, Hitler withdrew Germany’s money system from the gold standard. Gold was the
recognized medium of exchange for international commerce. Over centuries, it had become a
commodity as well. Financiers bought and sold gold, speculated on its fluctuations in price, and
loaned it abroad at high interest. Hitler substituted a direct barter system in foreign dealings. German
currency became defined as measuring units of human productivity. The British General J.F.C. Fuller
observed, “Germany is already beginning to operate more on the concept of labor than on the conceptof money." 33
In January 1938, the Soviet diplomat Kristyan Rakovsky commented on the German money system.
Rakovsky had held posts in London and in Paris and was acquainted with Wall Street financiers. He
explained, “Hitler, this uneducated ordinary man, has out of natural intuition and even despite the
opposition of the technician Schacht, created an especially dangerous economic system. An illiterate
in every theory of economics driven only by necessity, he has cut out international as well as private
high finance…"
