How do you respond to this?

>"Regardless of whether it's a placebo or not, it has still made a significant improvement over my [and thousands of others'] lifestyle. Christianity and vitamins might be placebos too, it doesn't make them any less valid as forms of self-betterment."

>"You're right, I'm actually still consuming dozens of hours of porn every year because, uhm, it's just a placebo. Yeah motherless and exhentai are still getting requests from my IP. I dunno why, I thought since I stopped doing that shit it wouldn't happen but I guess it was just a placebo after all."

>"The thing about placebos is, they work. They inspire physical changes that would not have otherwise occurred without a new variable. Ergo, nofap works dumbass."

>"k."

>*unsheathes katana* "What did you just fucking say?"

>"The research on nofap is still in its alpha stage, it's too early to determine whether or not it's a placebo. That being said, there are new studies that support the theory that pornography influences individuals on both a psychological and a neurological level. It's worth pointing out that pornography addiction correlates with all of the traits of "arousal addictions" (aka behavioral addictions) like video games, gambling, shopping, etc.; all of which have extensive research and studies to back their validity."

>"Yeah, well, y'know that's just like uh, your opinion, man."

it isn't placebo, there are various studies on it

If they're not gonna cite a single source to confirm that "it's a placebo," I'd just respond with "Your life is a placebo. Consider suicide."

What is this reddit I thought everyone here already knew it was just a placebo.

 No.2143>>2153 >>2155

Why would you respond to it though?

>try it for 3 weeks, remember no porn too

>if you don't like it go back

If he says "It's a placebo it's bullshit" then

>k thx bye

or

>ok, go fuck yourself and dont talk me (ever) again

This current study examined the effect of a 3-week period of sexual abstinence on the neuroendocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm. Hormonal and cardiovascular parameters were examined in ten healthy adult men during sexual arousal and masturbation-induced orgasm. Blood was drawn continuously and cardiovascular parameters were constantly monitored.

This procedure was conducted for each participant twice, both before and after a 3-week period of sexual abstinence.

Plasma was subsequently analysed for concentrations of adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol, prolactin, luteinizing hormone and testosterone concentrations.

Orgasm increased blood pressure, heart rate, plasma catecholamines and prolactin. These effects were observed both before and after sexual abstinence.

In contrast, although plasma testosterone was unaltered by orgasm, higher testosterone concentrations were observed following the period of abstinence.

These data demonstrate that acute abstinence does not change the neuroendocrine response to orgasm but does produce elevated levels of testosterone in males.

More testosterone means more muscle!

Except for muscles does it mean anything else?

I'm at 30 days currently, and I've noticed I'm definitely better at it, and I'm more assertive.

The most severe loss upon ejaculation is your body's zinc reserves. Everytime you ejaculate, your body mines itself for zinc to recreate the load you just shot. Even if you supplement with zinc to make up for it, the body only absorbs a very tiny amount, and even if you megadose (which is dangerous) it will still only absorb a tiny amount. This means that recovering from a single ejaculation takes time and any habitual fapper faps multiple times a day if not once a day. Zinc is essential to testosterone production, neurological health, and many other processes but mainly the two aforementioned ones.

tl;dr you can literally fap yourself stupid and into hormonal imbalance

Another thing about fapping is that if you don't fap for a few days, females can sense your increased testosterone.

Your body gives off pheromones that will attract the opposite sex, and the strength increases the longer you've gone without fapping.

Seems to me like people in general can. I get way more respect and people are more friendly with me when I'm on a decent streak. It's absolutely true that your altered behaviors is part of the effect, but I've also noticed a distinct difference in how people initiate contact with me, before I've said anything.

I hope so… one of the reasons I started the whole thing is women.

Even though it's up to debate, what is the right thing?

To improve yourself to impress women

or to improve yourself just because you want to, and things should go right.

it's hard to explain, but I think you can understand the concept and expand your thoughts on it.

There you have it.

>Just a placebo

This phrase is always hilarious to me. Even assuming the positive effects of a protocol or supplement are caused by the placebo effect, it's not "just" a placebo; it's a fucking placebo. You should be ecstatic that you found a working placebo because the overwhelming majority of the time the power of thinking has zero impact on your physiology and life whatsoever. Placebos don't grow on trees, if you've found one that gives you massive benefits you're winning in life and it's not "just" a placebo

what happens if you get aroused form non sexual videos?

for example if a man watches sneaker sniffing videos and he gets hard would the same take place?

 No.5700

No, you actually release an increased amount of pheromones which females pick up on subconsciously (you basically smell differently).
