The presidential campaign of Kanye West is rolling on after the rapper-turned-political candidate submitted paperwork to appear on the Missouri general ballot.
West's campaign filed signatures with the Missouri State Board of Elections on Monday just before the 5 p.m. cutoff time, according to Maura Browning, a representative for Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. Browning stressed that West will not appear on the ballot unless all 10,000 signatures required can be validated as legitimate.
West's whirlwind presidential bid was seen as a joke by many pundits, but he has so far delivered by filing to appear on the ballot in Oklahoma and his home state of Illinois. His outsider campaign has promoted a pro-life, pro-gun, pro-illegal immigrant message that pulls from the populist broader instincts of both major political parties.
The candidate also attempted to gain enough signatures to appear on the South Carolina ballot and appeared at an in-person rally to spur support, but he failed to get enough signatures to gain ballot access in the southern state.
West, who was an outspoken supporter of President Trump and has donned his "Make America Great Again" hat at various times throughout the past four years, is running an independent presidential campaign on a self-styled Birthday Party ticket. He has relied on social media and word of mouth to generate exposure and support for his campaign, which kicked off in early July.
