I'm more of a specific record person than a band person, but Killing Joke is one of the most consistently good bands I've ever heard. They blew me away when I first started listening to them. They've done some records I'm not that big on, but I'd still rather listen to those than what most other bands have been putting out.
Also, Robin Guthrie doesn't seem to get enough respect. As much as I like Loveless, as a whole I'd take his work over that of Kevin Shields.
Guitarists who play in styles that grew out of punk don't seem to get much respect in general (unless they're maybe playing '90s alt rock or something). People always seem to be looking back to blues-influenced guitarists of the '60s and '70s, whereas that stuff mostly bores the crap out of me.
