That's something that's always bothered me too. I've always been good at taking tests, but not everyone is. It's a skill totally unrelated to the subject matter you're being tested on, yet is critical in order to pass it. I guess there is some efficiency in them, but they don't really asses students that well from what I can tell. I've done well on exams where I didn't even understand the material well, I've seen smart students do poorly, and all sorts of silliness. The format is is just so artificial too, especially when any real world work in my field is highly collaborative. If you need help you just ask others or look up some resource, you're not screwed forever. I guess I'm just bitter after so long, even when I do well on exams it is never that satisfying to me.

I'd rather become a full time research scientist, but being a professor has some advantages. I'm not sure how well I could deal with all the annoying parts of academia, even on the other side though. We will see. I did have an astronomy class last semester that had no exams. It was all based on projects. It was hard as hell but we learned how to do work we might actually have to do someday in our future careers. I really liked that format.

Correct, I already worked on this once in a charity organization. it didn't worked so well. also in this case the job is even more simple, I just have to get a name and a phone number and the company do the rest. if there's a deal then I get paid.
