 No.9333>>9337 >>9338 [Watch Thread][Show All Posts]

The only subject we have on the agenda this year is the question of multiple image attachments per post. (Edit by BO: That was the only item on the board staff's agenda. We might have one more. We are still debating where we stand.

Anyone else have questions, comments, or meta related content dive in to this thread.)

The original feeling of the board staff is that it's better to have one image per post, as it raises post count statistics for the board. Our current view is wavering on this. It doesn't seem to be something worth paying attention to, and upping the attachments might make everyone a bit happier.

Before a change is made we would like to hear what people have to say. (Edit by BO: Done. Board is now set to 5 images per post.)

Also, if you have other questions or concerns, now is the time.

Board ranking is determined by UIDs, not PPH. No one cares about the latter.

Who else has had enough of 8chan post errors?

I remember that thread. Behind the scenes, the board staff promised each other to refrain from hotpocketing while the bar is open as a result of that thread. We still have no official 8chan /lit/ VA, though. Pity that.

>Board ranking is determined by UIDs, not PPH.

Exactly to the point. I think it will be enough to push the BO to change, once she sees your remark. This thread should bat around for a day or so more before she commits.

>Who else has had enough of 8chan post errors?

I'm happy enough with the current status, relative to how it was between three to nine months ago. I'm starting to see I'm in the minority in wanting to let things slide. Give it another month and I think there will be a serious push for HW to take radical action.

i don't particularly care.

BO of >>>/philosophy/ here.

What are your thoughts on cross-board advertising via announcement bar?

Didn't see a meta thread so I'm posting here.

 No.9357>>9359 >>9394

Max images per post on /lit/ is now set to five.

>>9352

Advertisement and shilling are touchy subjects on imageboards. We want to be reasonably open to benign instances as long as they remain strongly literature related contributions, and otherwise easy to manage. As stated in the board FAQ and guidelines, we give greater leeway to links internal to 8chan. Some boards have links to recommended, featured, or sister boards. /lit/ could afford to have a few links to related boards as well. My preference is that /philosophy/ be grandfathered in by default as it has always been an aspect of literature, and is strongly associated with /lit/ boards across the chanscape. I want to run this by the BV before I commit to a change, first. Second, this list must remain small. Two or three additions ideally, no more than five absolutely. Discuss any additions in this thread, please.

>>9336

>the board staff promised each other to refrain from hotpocketing while the bar is open

To row away from the rocks, sweetie. Nothing more was promised.

Idle question: what's the largest, most active literature related board here on 8chan? It's not us, not that I mind. I'm just curious if anyone else noticed.

 No.9394

>>9357

>>9359

I personally don't see anything wrong with advertising similar boards, and would go further to argue it's a necessity. As the population becomes more and more fractious and the boards consequently more compartmentalized, it's important to maintain an active userbase. A network of similar boards would go a long way towards that.

I think hes talking about >>>/pdfs/

So the boards so far are /philosophy/, /his/, /pdfs/ and I would throw /edu/ in there as well

I don't think we need any more than that tbh

The answer is: /cyber/

/lit/ casts a much wider topical net, of course.

 No.9410>>9417 >>9421 >>9423 >>9433

OK, we've settled on three for now.

/philosophy/ and /his/ have an attachment to /lit/ that is traditional across image-board culture as a whole. /cyber/ has always been bigger and, while their focus is wider than literature, books and writing related to their genera are a major part of their board activity. We'll go with these three.

/edu/ is an interesting suggestion. The board staff will keep an eye on them, for now.

/pdfs/ is for primary source content sharing instead of discussion. Originally, they were an offshoot of /pol/ and intended as a major support resource. They are an excellent resource and appear to the the largest such on 8chan, but they're still overwhelmingly /pol/-centric. We're not anti-/pol/, but we need to maintain some official distance in order to stay relevant.

That brings me up to the last item the BO and I have been kicking around since early this year. /library/ has become a drag to maintain, and there is clearly no demand for the minor additional content sharing features it offers. What we are considering is abandoning /library/ and enabling PDFs, plus whatever else that can be allowed to upload here to /lit/.

Any comments or thoughts on this upload policy change for /lit/?

I'm pretty vehemently anti-/pol/. I don't want to see every thread devolve into THE JEWS DID THIS shitposting in <5 posts.

 No.9418>>9421

>>9417

addendum:

If /library/ was merged with /lit/ would DMCA takedowns delete the entire post/thread, or only the attached files claimed to be infringing?

 No.9421>>9423

>>9410

>there is clearly no demand for the minor additional content sharing features it offers.

To clarify what the BV is saying here: 8chan offers three different styles of boards. An image board, a file upload board, and a plain text board. After /library/ was acquired it was changed from an image board to a file upload board style. An important difference was allowing a variety of archive (zip, etc.) files to be uploaded. Today, it appears these file-types are now an option for regular image boards as well.

The only real difference now is that /library/ has this weird look and feel of some retro VisiCalc spreadsheet … thing.

>>9418

That is a good question, for which I have no authoritative answer. My understanding is that HW (or his designated gofer at that time) is only interested in culling specific posts to comply with the law. I will ask around and see if can get an answer in a more absolute form.

 No.9423

>>9410

>>9421

/pdfs/ may have been created by a /pol/ack and the BO may be a nazi but it's really irrelevant. the owner has no restrictions on what can(t) be uploaded. Its only /pol/-centric because /pol/ is half the site. though I'll admit, the stickies are pretty /pol/-tier.

that being said I completely support your decision to enable pdf uploading. DMCA takedowns for pdfs are a non-issue

It's best to only ban something when someone spams it.

Can someone tell me why leftypol latched onto Stirner? How in the hell does egoism connect with socialism in any way? Or do they not realise that the thought that everyone is equal, and heck, communism itself is a spook? How does 'I do what I want and the consequences of my actions are not for me to solve' fit in with socialism? Do they not know Marx hated the living shit out of Stirner?

Honestly, besides not knowing why anyone would be a collectivist, the thing I understand the least is why leftypol likes Stirner. If anything he's closer to libertarianism or anarchism, not fucking communism where everyone unites.

You might wanna take a closer look at Stirner.

>the thing I understand the least is why leftypol likes Stirner

Stirner is pretty much the premise of post-left anarchism, like >>9453 said. A lot of PLA's would claim that something along the lines of egoism is absolutely necessary for the existence of a socialist society.

leftypol is still socialist, just not "left" in the anachronistic sense that you seem to be referring to.

 No.9520>>10148

PDF uploading has been enabled.

I misread the situation, thinking something had changed. File style boards allow a wider variety of file types to be uploaded. Image style boards restrict this to PDFs. That has not changed. Oh well.

We still have an outstanding question about DMCA takedowns -- would it encompass only a file, a post, or an entire thread? I do not have an answer yet, stay tuned …

 No.9670>>9673 >>9682

How bad did you say posting has to be before it's time to leave?

 No.9673>>9679 >>9687

>>9670

Based off of the Infinity Next migration experience, there was zero interest in moving to another location. The BV was pushing for the adoption of an off-site bunker as well, but again there was no interest. Our little corner of /lit/ will live or die with 8chan.

 No.9679>>9687

>>9673

most site migrations (anecdotally) tend be driven by internal politics and drama, esp. in the populous boards that are wont to grab pitchforks and torches at the slightest provocation. I like to think that as a slower and much more intellectual (read: pretentious) board our little secret garden is insulated from the unrest and--given real cause–would make the switch to wherever else. Though I didn't leave halfchan until the captcha and reddit finally became insufferable so maybe I'm a little biased.

The slightest provocation was a long time ago, and there are still many real causes to leave such as the posting errors and lack of Tor support.

Tripping over theory versus practice.

Theory can be gone over until the cows come home, so whatever. As /lit/ is stereotyped to be sitting in that green compass corner, the topic naturally comes up from time to time. I don't think that was being discussed though.

Practice in this sense means the /leftypol/ board, specifically. As was stated here:

>>9453

Discussion appeared focused on the state of that board (of that time), not the ideas behind it.

In short, it's off board meta in a board meta thread. Par for the course really.

>>10144

>>10147

The BV of /lit/ here set up the board there. This happened when the Infinity Next transition became an obvious and complete disaster. As of now Endchan /lit/ is utterly dead and there is no reason to use it. The board staff does not anticipate any change this status. The BV is keeping an eye on it still.

Speaking of Endchan as a whole, you would have to cruise it and decide for yourself.

>>9520

>outstanding question about DMCA takedowns

Our question was never answered (nor acknowledged) by anyone from the 8chan admin team. Similar questions posted elsewhere by other users met the same silence. We'll take this as a hint and pursue it no further. Anyone still interested can ask around, but the /lit/ board staff has no answer for you.
