I change my IP quite often, after an IP change I would have to come to the whitelist thread, you would check my post history, and see literally nothing. How would you know if I was sadbro or not? Not to mention that I'd have to wait for you to come online and check the whitelist thread everytime I wanted to post after changing my IP

So either you would have to whitelist everyone, or you would have to ban new people and people who change IP's from ever posting here again.

Also the bot doesn't delete posts instantly, so adding some mods would effectively achieve the same thing, there were 3 applications in that thread yesterday, + I'm sure more people would be willing to help.

Don't know why you're so paranoid about sadbro becoming a mod and deleting every thread, no one cares about the old threads.

adding mods (essentially janitors) would change nothing because the job you're so eager to get consists entirely of deleting, or cleaning up, scat after it's already been posted and seen by others which is what we're trying to avoid in the first place

giving another user the ability to delete posts has no effect on that seeing as kpganon can just as easily hide the post themselves (essentially deleting it from their view just as any potential volunteer would) until it is wiped from the board entirely, but i suspect you already knew that

also, as i said, there is an auto-invite feature which is bittersweet in that it would basically mean gayshitter just has to make one post in the whitelist thread before posting his precious dickpics but it is an option. this could be turned on permanantly/switched off accordingly and still make it somewhat easier to minimize his autism while still making it not terribly inconvenient for other anons to get whitelisted within just a few minutes if not instantly via the auto-whitelist feature

to the best of my understanding the bot is limited by 8ch server's responsiveness which varys throughout the day, but it has been successful on other board(s) and adding mods would in fact not achieve "the same thing"

you get a new ip hash with every new ip so you would have to post in the whitelist thread every time you switch ips. if the bot is set to auto-invite which would be the case while buttboy is otherwise engaged, it shouldn't take more than a minute or so as far as i know

if i were to do it manually it might take even less time provided i'm here and can just copy+paste your hash into a the whitelist file

when i'm not here, turning auto-whitelist on would be an option but that potentially opens up a window for vivifaggot to whitelist himself (lol) and then we are essentially right back where we started. obviously not ideal but these are the options we have so far

There are plenty of people here who have been posting for ages who you can easily check are legit. Regardless, what's the worst that happens if he gets made a mod? he deletes the old threads, and then gets his mod status removed. This is fine imo. If you think the history is important, can we set up an archive/backup of some kind?

what you fail to realize is that it also comes with the power to see ids, post history and ban at will and, as i already said, makes no difference to other anons that have already seen the post and can just as easily hide it themselves

i realize you may see this as the only option but in actuality it changes nothing with regards to his ability to spam at will, it merely shifts the burden of cleaning up his mess after the fact to someone else which the entire board is then at mercy to which in terms of upside to downside doesn't make any sense

if people are willing, why not? if a persons autoupdate has not refreshed they won't even see the spam and anyone joining the thread will have a clean start. It's an objective improvement.

the result is a potential for the mod in question to ban/otherwise fuck with anons until i check logs with a slight benefit of having someone else to clean up this idiot's mess after the fact, something which isn't an issue with the automod script and would automatically fulfill this task anyway

if there were an option to add a volunteer that can only delete the last 50-100 posts or something i would do it in a heartbeat, but 8ch code just isn't there yet

the bot works simply by monitoring the recent posts page and automatically deleting any posts by an IP that is not in the hash database

The reason I immediately suggested mods rather than discussing the whitelisting is the same as this guys >>68391. Any practical mechanism you use to add people to the whitelist would be exploitable by the spammer. If no one is ever added to the whitelist after the first batch then the board will die in time.

if we use it, the best way i can think is to have 1 thread for whitelisting but leave wlc_auto (which whitelists everyone automatically as if it's just a regular board -- your posts won't be deleted even if your ip hasn't been put on the list yet) on until vivicunt starts crying again, after which i would turn on whitelist enforcement

everyone that's already on the list won't have to do anything but everyone else will have to post in the whitelist thread first.

from there i can leave it to automatically whitelist everone in the thread and just manually ban vivifag when he inevitably tries to whitelist himself (lol)

this should keep the active thread clean with only whitelisted posters. if you've changed ips since last time all you would have to do is make a post in the whitelist thread and you will be whitelisted in under a minute

when i'm not here to mess with the bot i can either

a) leave the whitelist enforcement on and only users that don't change IPs will be able to keep posting normally. any legit posters that have changed ips would unfortunately have to wait until i manually add them to the list or

b) leave wlc_auto (see >>68435) on and anyone will be able to whitelist themselves before posting but this of course would mean vivinigger just has to make one post before going to the active thread to continue being a retard and then we're right back where we started with anon having to hide posts themselves

neither options are perfect but it's what we have available to us right now. personally i think we should have a trial run and for the most part the only posters that will have to go through a small extra step are ones that change ips often

so unfortunately the script does work as i initially suspected in that it acts only as a cleanup bot and doesn't prevent non-whitelisted posters from posting outside of a designated thread

kpganon will still see hurtinginsidehomo's spam and have to refresh their thread to get rid of it which changes very little. a sad day indeed

one more thing since anons with different IPs have been brought up. We've had that too, the thing is that ISPs dont go through an infinite change of IPs, actually they just cycle through a few of them so an example: maybe an anon with a dynamic IP would get added 3 times but that's it. People who want their VPNs or phones added to the WL can get it added just like normally and while some can share VPNs like with the case of Opera's built in VPNs it's not typical. There's also the rare case of an anon sharing the IP with another.

This is typically why we leave *half of the WL off*, on standby so posts arent nuked but new users can still sign up for shelter when the bombs do drop. The Kemo's anti spam is extremely effective and prevents new threads being posted as well. Much faster than a vol monitoring the board and hitting delete on everything. In the beginning of the spam waves we left Kemo on patrol overnight so the board was protected from spam.

i think i solved our problem.

this refreshes the tab when there hasn't been any user input (mouse clicks, keypresses) for 15 seconds. so you run this alongside the whitelist script, turn off the 8ch auto-update and everytime it refreshes you won't ever see schizzonigger's posts. what do you think?

this looks like a good solution but i noticed that unless you are replying to a post or have it highlighted (so your address bar changes to https://8ch.net/kpop/res/68370.html#69346) the refresh will send you to the top of the page and any text that might be in the reply box will be erased

for that to happen you would have had to open the quick reply box by clicking [Post a Reply] at the bottom of the page or be idling in the thread without a post number #69346 in your address bar to mark how far down the thread you are

nothing to be done about that within js though i think. it's not a perfect solution either but considering we can turn it off when butthurtgayboi isn't here just like the small preview css code it's definitely a big help thanks for sharing

also i've tried looking for scripts/code to help with mod tools or just general improvements like this but there's surprisingly no threads on 8ch for this stuff and everything i've been able to find on github/userscript sites is old as shit

one thing that would make it better though, maybe you can help, is to make it consider mouse scrolling as activity. cause if you're scrolling down a thread, it doesn't consider that a mouse click or keypress and will refresh

i'm not sure why but i noticed that there is a text file named 'pause' in the whitelist directory and inside of it is a yes state. when i change this parameter to no and then run the script again it runs for a second or two and then gives an attribute error

Sounds like to me Kemo is working but once you log into your account it stops. Most likely due to how 8ch's account system works only able to log in to one account per session. Kemo can only function when logged in and we keep Kemo in perma-logged on as a separate account.

I'm fairly sure he does, but I'll double check if Bell (creator of the modbot) runs it from another PC.

i tested the script while logged out of mod or any other account and also from a seperate machine so i don't think that's it. also per >>>/fur/36773 the error indicates that it's an issue parsing the recent posts page which it wouldn't have access to if it were an account problem
