So I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where people can post small, positive things that they're doing or that's happened lately. It's easy to get into a depressive/unmotivated mindset, so I think it'd be a good idea to post positive things or improvements and such. They can just be small things, or if you want to accomplish something big you can post whatever small steps you're taking to get there.

I'll start: I've started a pushup routine in an attempt to get into shape. I want to add more exercises to it, but I have no idea what makes a good workout.

Congrats, and good luck! It should be possible to do it with just ALSA, but in a pinch, PulseAudio will almost certainly work.

If you ever feel like installing Gentoo, you'll probably find it similar to installing Arch, although it takes longer, and if your internet connection requires a proprietary driver you're going to have a hard time. The kernel customization is easier than it sounds, though; there's a(n old-timey DOS-type) GUI for it, and most of the options have descriptions with lines like "If you don't know what this means, you don't need it." or "Leave this enabled unless you know what you're doing."

>Huh, I always though Qigong was kind of a meme to be honest. Has it improved your fitness? Also gardening's pretty dope, seems like a nice diy project.

The Qigong I do is a type of meditation that is good for your health and longevity. Zhan Zhuang is for fitness, similar to TaiChi but without any movement. Related to Pushing hands, Push hands or tuishou, it is the foundation for a healthy body and mind. Although they are different both can be practiced at the same time or separately. The garden has always been important to me because I make herbal medicines for myself. My Grandmother taught me these things, she was Sioux.

>I'm honing my writing skills for that big novel I'm going to start one of… these… days.

I have fairly decent writing skills and a relatively extensive vocabulary, I've even been complimented a few times in the past for things I have written. I've thought of writing a novel as well, but my biggest problem is that I have no idea what I would even write about. It seems like everything has already been done in one way or another, so it can be very difficult to conjure up something new and fresh that would actually be worth writing or reading.

>I'm planning an indoor salad garden for winter and a 55 gallon aquarium for marbled crayfish. This will be my experiment in aquaculture. The crayfish water will provide fertilizer for the hydroponic garden, and left over veggies will feed the crayfish, they eat mostly vegetation and a few snails. I get fresh vegetables and crayfish to eat.

That's really neat, elder hikki. A self-sustaining indoor garden sounds incredibly convenient.

Tried to decide on what programming projects I actually want to do today. I always start something and get distracted by another idea. I want to understand Blockchain better, but haven't got a solid idea of what I want to do with it.

>full-size encryption

That ship's a real pain sometimes, especially on big hard drives. I've thought about getting an old ThinkPad or something that has a small drive that I could fully encrypt and installed hardened gentoo or slack on. But I haven't done it yet.

Thanks…

Pretty soon I can transplant to 5 gallon buckets for the balcony garden. And then later take cuttings/clones, for the winter garden inside. They might replace the carpet in the apartment, so I have to wait for that before getting the Aquarium and hydroponic system setup. My poppy seeds come monday, I will test them to see if they germinate, if not put them in the refrigerator to stratify the papaver somniferum seeds. And them sow them directly in a bucket outdoors when it's warm enough.

I've tried to do an Arch full disk encryption install since last night and today. I keep failing but I haven't given up yet. Not really a success but at least I haven't given up like I usually do with things that I don't immediately pick up on. Pretty sure I'm only messing up in one spot, so at least I've narrowed my failure down.

I will make GRUB my bitch god damn it.

I really wouldn't recommend Arch Linux for someone just trying to get away from Windows. Linux Mint or Manjaro Linux would be easier to get working.

I've already been using Linux mint for 5 months because I was still learning the basics of the OS

So finally I decided to install Arch Linux to learn more progressed commands rather than the basics but I failed at installing it tbh so I installed windows again to play video games instead of mint till I will figure out how to install it successfully

Finally figured out what I was doing wrong with GRUB. Full-disk Encrypted install of Arch is a success! And only took god damn 5-6 times. But it feels great to have kept trying at something I failed at. Initially I kept doing the install on a live system but at one point I fell back to using Ubuntu so I could keep doing installs in a VM, which saved my sanity. For some reason, the install wasn't working for me when I tried using UEFI, so I happily gave that up and went with MBR/BIOS.

Here's a screenshot of my Arch install with my beautifully ugly emacs

Not long ago I decided to start drawing again after 6 years. Each day I try to practice for at least a little bit. On top of that, I have also decided to begin world-building so I can write a fantasy book series. I started today with a small brainstorming session to get ideas flowing, I came up with some pretty good ideas I think. I hope to be able to one day combine my drawing and writing to make an entire fictional world for myself, full of adventure, lore, and mystery.

I'm trying to read regularly again. I'm attempting to finish a programming (Common Lisp) book I've had for 3 years, which I almost finished last year but suddenly stopped for no good reason. I'm going through it and doing all the exercises again, but I've skipped over some chapters just because it's boring since I know everything there.

Feels good getting back into the swing of things. Any of you anons reading? If so, what, and how is it?

I've been reading a lot of Chinese and Korean light novels and fantasy novels translated in English lightly to be honest it's better to read them on my phone while in bed than it is to stare at a computer screen for so long.

I've been meaning to finish The Mind Illuminated, along with 50 other books in my reading queue. Something strange has happened with my mind, which I suspect a lack of social interaction is the culprit. For the past year I stopped being able to understand anything I read. It's been a long time trying to recover my ability to read, but I'm getting there.

I get on reading kicks where I'll cruise through 5+ books in a week, but I tend to burn out for a bit after that.

I mainly stick with escapist fantasy and scifi stuff, though I did get my hands on a really nice copy of the Hobbit and Silmarillion so I think I'll read those again

Honestly I'm deathly afraid of the interview right now. My stomach feels like it's turning inside-out or as if it's empty, a feeling that is sudden and keeps coming back and rests. But for the life of me I can't properly formalize *why* I'm reacting this way to just a simple interview. The questions are going to be basic, and it'll only last at most 10 minutes, so what am I so fearful of? I suppose plain rejection.

This will be my second job interview ever. The first interview I had I never got a call or email back, not even any notification of rejection. I don't even really want a job but I also don't want to go through the humiliating process of being on government assistance and creating a dependency of government support. I'm already getting EBT and that's disgusting enough for me. At least this job will start out as part-time and I'll hopefully make enough money that it can relax my mother. I'll give her the full check if it'll stop her from expressing financial anxiety.

Thanks for the support, anons.

I know how you feel, anon. I've held two jobs before and both times I was a nervous wreck before the initial interview. I think part of it is just basic social anxiety, other than that I think our minds have a tendency to make it seem like a bigger deal than it actual is, as if we're being judged on our worthiness as a human being. Just do your best to keep your cool, and answer the questions to the best of your ability. I'm sure you will be just fine, anon.

I must be retarded if it's taken me this long only to get to chapter 10. Several times I've wanted to give up and just throw the shit away, but I haven't. 4 more chapters, 135 pages, and 55 exercises left. What I want most of all is to finish this damn book that's just been staring at me all these years, and I'm so close. Such a silly and small goal but I have to do it.

I think my medication has helped stabilize my mood, helping me continue on with this goal. Currently taking Abilify and Wellbutrin.

Don't feel bad, anon. I started reading recently as well and I'm taking it slow, in fact I only read one chapter each day but it still feels good. I have found that reading something a bit slowly allows for more time to digest and reflect on the information.

It doesn't sound so silly to me. You're accomplishing something, and even if it seems small, these things tend to add up to something much bigger. I'm proud of you anon, and you should be proud of yourself too.

>How about you, anons, what have you been working on?

I've been doing a few things in small doses. I'm currently drawing, reading, and writing. Like I said above, I'm reading one chapter of my book each day, and I'm more than 1/3 of the way through it. I haven't been drawing as much as I should but when I do draw I make good progress. Finally, my writing is still only in the preliminary stages, basically still designing the foundations for a good story. I get some really good ideas here and there, but I really need to get a tangible setting mapped out for these stories to take place in.
