This is a major issue with RPGs anymore. Most think a character has to be set in stone or a totally empty husk. There are far too few devs that understand the 'illusion of choice' and how useful it can be. Not every decision given to the player needs to be world altering. Hell, you could have some, if not most, choices do nothing more than give slight variations in an NPCs response.

That illusion means everything in an RPG though. Giving a player a choice in how to react to a situation or line of dialogue doesn't need to have any effect at all, but having that choice gives the player control over their character's personality in a way that lets the character actually have a personality. Off the top of my head, here are some examples of games that did this well, we've got Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, and Tyranny.

Having a set in stone character isn't necessarily a bad thing either, as long as the writers know how to make a likable character that doesn't constantly infuriate the player. More often than not, the writers won't know what the fuck their doing. I've found this to be the case even more often with Jap writers too.

The game hasn't been abandoned as far as I can see. I've been following it since its conception, and even back then it got one update a year at best. This lack of updates is just par for the course.

It's still updating occasionally, and when it does update it tends to be quite a bit of content.

And yes, it's so wonderfully wholesome. Turn into a girl, hang out in lovely surroundings, make new friends, have fun jumping into the sea, possibly have consensual first-time threesome.

I mean, yes, Casey's sister has obviously engineered this whole situation to tf her for some bizarre reason, which you'd think is kind of messed up… but somehow in many, many play-throughs I've never quite got around to exploring the paths where she's in any way upset about it. Always get a bit of a happy clicking the 'this is how I was meant to be' response, actually.

Just stay away from the rich guy's boat. That's not a storyline that's going to end anywhere nice.

You do make a good point, and I think PE is probably the best at this. there are several points in gam where you make a "decision" and all that happens is a bit of a change in flavor text at the next scene. It's far from perfect (eg. begging your mother not to fuck you in the ass with a strapon still results in any future instance being a reward but she still chastises you a bit in the immediately following scene. RW is another example of false choices that only change a few lines of text but is still rewarding regardless). The thing is, you're asking for a very delicate balance. The author must give enough personality to the MC to make for meaningful dialogue and flavor text on what the MC is thinking at the time, but also fluid enough where said personality can be seen as a reasonable analogue to what the player would be thinking if the situation were happening to them. It really is a challenge even for AAA titles. The illusion of choice helps to mitigate this issue with minimal effort, but it is far too easy to swing too far to one side of the "overly developed main character/empty husk of a person" spectrum.

> far too easy to swing too far to one side

This is true, though I have to wonder if AAA titles fail because of laziness or incompetence considering how many older or indie RPGs get it right. Hell, a some porn mods for NWN did it better than most AAA games these days, like ADwRs or Gladiatrix.

A suppose we could use Dragon Age as another good example here, because DA 2 was hot garbage.

In DA 1: The player had plentiful choices of dialogue to choose from. We were given exactly what our character would say, and most of them were things people would say in those given scenarios. They were 'pick your archetype' shit like their later games. In most cases they would only change what the NPC's immediate response would be and maybe some relationship stats. They let the big meaningful choices be big and meaningful, but understood the importance on letting the player have some say in the smaller interactions.

DA 2: Now this was a mess. We had 3 premade personalities to swap back and forth from the like someone with a disorder, and we only had a vague approximation of what our character would do at any given time. I still remember pushing the "Calm down" button when underground and surrounded by Darkspawn, only to see my character deck his brother in the face. That choice, that wasn't properly explained to the player, made the brother instantly hate me for the rest of the game. This is a good example of the 'overly developed main character.' They had three characters in mind, and we were probably supposed to stick with one personality through the whole thing, but their choices of personality were "Literal Jesus can do no wrong", "Snarkity Snark Snark please punch me", and "Raging Bastard for no reason".

You're quite right that AAA titles steer away from proper, open-ended, character development. They blow their whole budget on graphics and world size nowadays. There's a reason open world RPG's have become known as "walking simulators." They build these massive worlds which, while beautiful, are largely devoid of enjoyable content. It's like they have one main storyline, another auxiliary one, and then a map where they haphazardly place side quests and whatnot. The map comes before the dialogue. Hell, one game on tfgames.site I must complain about for this reason is "enchanted." They spent around a year or so just developing the "landscape." The only lewds for the longest time were "peeping in the bathroom" scenes. Meanwhile, there was an entire world around you filled with nothing but placehholders. I'm glad that they're now finally adding lewd content but you must decide which route you want to go on toward the beginning of the game. And yes, there are some meaningful choices on some routes, but it still stands as largely an empty world for you to explore and find nothing. Hopefully this improves, but for now the game is shit.

I feel like I played pretty middle of the road, but toward the end I reached a point where I don't see how the MC could not be upset. Guess I'll have to try another playthrough then, does the story have that many branching paths?

You know, I'm not sure they do. If you look at modern games it's just a mess of shaders and effects, tear them away and it all looks like SHIT, meanwhile older games had actual effort put into the graphics to make them look good despite the hardware available at the time.

If anything, modern games blow their whole budget on marketing. Better return to just convince people to buy your game either way than to make it legit good.

I think it's a combination of both being lazy, but also the state of trends in modern gaming. Gaming has made enormous leaps in graphics, looking back to the 2d era, then the big leap to 3d and finally the point we are at where 3d graphics have been refined and actually look beautiful, this lead to game developers leaning more heavily on that aspect of gaming. The biggest negative effect of this was the "omg we need to create this vast, enormous open world without invisible walls anywhere(invisible walls used to be and sort of still are a big criticism of games).

As some of you have said, they now focus on the world first, then place the content in, when it should be the other way around, create the content, then create a worldspace to place it. In gaming culture for a long time now linear games were scorned, both developers and the public are equally to blame for this, this is a major reason why we have these vast, empty open world games. Thankfully, the public has been wisening up to this and a big criticism is now "vast as an ocean, as deep as a puddle", so developers will hopefully try to fix this. Were starting to see more linear focused games and there is nothing wrong with that, both linear and open games can be amazing as long as they are done properly, it's just generally easier to create a linear game.

People can love or hate the Witcher series, but there's no question that The Witcher 3 is a blueprint on how to do open world properly. The world is very large(not the biggest open world, but still respectfully big), but what separates it from others of it's genre and I think why so many people praise it, is how dense the world it, how many npc's, items and quests are stuffed in it, but most importantly, they did side quests right. In most games side quests are an after thought, fetch this, talk to them, kill that, rinse and repeat, but The Witcher's quests had so much meat and lore to them, some of them were so good you could mistake them for a main quest. That's what modern dev's need to strive to do, create interesting quests that fit in to the overall lore of the game, give the players a reason to want to do these quests instead of players just mindlessly doing them for completion sake or achievement.

I'm almost always negative with new game releases, but I have total faith that Cyberpunk is going to take open world gaming to the next level, it's going to blow peoples minds and all games of the genre will be compared to it in the future, forcing dev's to raise their standards to compete. Well, we better hope it does at least, because I don't think any other triple A dev will be able to pull it off. Maybe a dev like Naughty Dog could pull it off, but that genre just isn't their style, they focus on more linear, story driven games, so it won't be them. Rock* still makes great games, but most would say they hit their peak with GTA 3 and have lost their way since. Cyberpunk has the potential to change game development of the future for the better, so I'm all in rooting for CD Projekt Red.

They sink so much money into hiring certain types of developers, a huge bulk of costs will go to graphics, design, anything that creates the world space and characters, they need to start funneling more money into writers and designers, the people that think up the quests of the game. The main talent is all focused into the main quest of the game, then side quests are an after thought, if they would manage their money better they could hire more people to create well thought out and interesting quests, that alone would vastly improve an open world game.

I constantly go back to Flexible Survival. It's like a zombie survival game, but where everyone transform into enchanted monsters instead of zombies. You play as a survivor roaming around a town that's been quarantined. It has furry content, so not everyone will like it, but god damn it's got so many of my kinks all lined up and ready to try out. The only one missing is loli. The game maker is willing to explore every fetish under the sun except for that one.

My favorite bit is later in the game when the military send in their troops to try to reclaim the city and rescue any survivors. And 95% of the time they get swarmed by the monster and get transformed themselves. Seeing a squad of tough human guys getting seduced and transformed by some big buff lion man, turning them all into his harem of lionesses… I wish the game had more scenes and content featuring the actual TFs, often it just features the aftermath. Everyone has been changed and are just chilling, waiting for the next thing to happen.

There is a major problem with parasite infection, but I don't know where to submit bug reports; Basically, edge cases in the first stage are not caught in any way, meaning that you can get in situations where, for example, if the player never uses the starfish parasites but manages to infect everyone to the point that they can get biosuits, it causes problems with descriptions and stuff. Also, if the player gets sufficiently infected but still has a penis, but never develops a vagina, then there is still the option to take it in the vagina even through that isn't supposed to be possible.

Other issues include non-testing related stuff, such as the alien that you capture increasing alert status.

Afterlife – slow TF with a lot of focus on mental changes. Is sort of directed by you, so you decide whether to be a loli or a rich bitch or whatever

Timeless Pantheon – slow TF with a pretty good story, not as sexual but pretty fun to play

Magical Camp – game with the most content so far, focus on both physical and mental TF, moderately fast with them

>>370988

Monline – a LOT of different monstergirls to TF into, but only instant transformation, not gradual

Better Earth – lots of TFs for NPCs you meet (all instant) plus a gradual TF for yourself (though it's the weak part of the game, IMO, as there is litte reactivity to it, whereas TFing others into monster girls carries plenty of reactivity.)

Perverted Education has the MC getting feminized by his teacher, therapist, and mother/babysitter (which one is optional)

Queen of the Seas has you forced aboard a pirate ship as its new cabin "girl". Decently large scale exploration as the game opens up, but that requires getting a pass just to leave the ship which can take awhile. Can be very grindy. Found this one recently. It's a card game about transforming your opponent into a female sex slave before they do the same to you. Multiple different transformation flavors, lots of different endings for win or lose.

Basic game mechanics: you start with 10 basic cards in your deck, draw a fresh hand of 5 cards each turn. Any cards in your hand are free to play. Most cards add resources that can be spent on a random-selection of buy-pile cards which get added to your deck after the next reshuffle. As you become more transformed, the available buy-pile cards as well as your basic starting cards change, but previously-bought cards remain.

As far as I know the Magical Girl "deck" is the only one that changes all art. Other transformation decks only replace a minority of cards and how your character ends up looking, and potentially the endings if you meet the right criteria. They do still end up feeling fairly different to play either way.

I think there's an additional battle on Ascension Level 5 and above where you combine two different transformation decks, but it's only available to certain decks. Might not actually be implemented, the only deck I played at level 5 didn't have the option.

Try playing Witch and completing the ritual (6 witch cards in 1 turn). Or don't if you aren't a complete masochist, it's an EXTREMELY hard sub-game with only a small handful of different cards available.

The content is pretty good, it just needs better peripheral features (dialogue tracker for every single card that adapts to your Lust and fetish transformation, more feedback from TFing enemy like showing what's happening to them), porn for the current cards that don't have them but should, and more card options. 1-2x dominant sets for int/lust, some pregnancy, group, non-consent, or public use themed sets for lust/sub, and additional or updated cards that take more advantage of the last two updates' unique gameplay mechanics would go a long way to a better game and a better wank.

It doesn't help that the class selection screen is 30 minutes before you actually get to see the sprites, and no, the text that reads "You made your choice at the start of the intro, please understand" does not help. I won't excuse shitty game design just because it's a porn game.

Secretary would have been nice if it contained some actual transformations and wasn't sissy shit.
