Giving my guess the gender split on this board is 50/50 - that is higher than in other boards which aren't specifically for women. I had a cat for a pet for many years. She shed all the time, she would get hair on my clothes that wouldn't come off no matter how much I took a lint roller to it, and irritate my sinuses by rubbing up against my face, and her feces and urine were noxious. Once, she got a urinary tract infection and would eliminate outside of her litter box. Once, I picked up one of my shirts off the floor and she had evidently been defecating on it because a whole pile of shit came raining down out of it. I would also constantly have dreams about putting her waste in my mouth while scooping her litter box so there came a time when I could no longer tolerate any of it and found somebody else to adopt her.
I felt guilty about giving this woman my old cat because she was pregnant and owned several cats already and exposure to cat feces puts a child at risk for T. Gondii infection but nice guys finish last.
Plus, when she came to my house to take her home with her: she brought her female roommate along, too. Not a pertinent detail but that came across as a red flag for me.
I would not recommend getting a cat. I like watching Michael Jamison's youtube videos about all the tigers, dogs, and housecats he keeps but I would not like to be in his shoes on account of how much those animals shed and defecate.

Cats can be very good companions, as can be dogs.
Dogs are a lot more work though, however a really well trained dog is such a reward. You can, and should I think, train a cat - but youre just not going to have a trained cat that can match the product that is the trained dog.
However, both are fine animals with their own benefits. Id like to get a cat again, I have a dog now.
