It's a reactionary response. There should be a meaningful analysis of the reasoning and circumstances around a subject's censorship, as well as the surrounding conditions that would suggest clear and recognizable threats in the future. Instead free speech dogmatists feel threatened that anything in the space was censored at all and fear some vague important thing could be next to go, insisting on the existence of a slippery slope. (That is if they aren't putting a thin veil over the knowledge that they're engaging in something of social consequence)
It's also foolish to ignore that these problems follow the fascist element. 8ch/kun is on legal thin ice because of Jim and Ron and Fredrick's neglect. Moot's longtime negligence led to a reactionary campaign that he flushed instead of accountably defusing. Following the facists isn't a show of solidarity for free speech, it's enlisting as a pawn for abuse. You'll give them cover and they'll drag you deeper.
And just to share a personal anecdote; while I was lightly caught up in the events of Gamergate, I didn't stay on 8ch because of some perceived affront to free speech. I stayed because the site itself was compelling. It was new and exciting, moderators weren't faceless actors, furries could have their own board, you could make a board yourself and manage it, there were better features, etc. All that's what pulled me in and I'm willing to bet it was the same with many others. For them it will take an equal or greater substantive reason to move again (or return for that matter). On top of that, perceptions have changed. Desires are different. >>117154 isn't a surprising sentiment and in a sense I'm sick of imageboards too. I'm interested in specific functional aspects of them, but this scene, so to speak, is predominantly stagnant and tiring. A shift needs to be transformative.
