Shooting a knee can still kill a person (it's called bleeding to death) and because it's slow and involves the use of a firearm it can make a situation more dangerous than it was before you fired. If the situation was already placing you in mortal peril then the knee would not be the best target either.

Krav-Maga used to be a legitimate martial art designed to be deadly and effective, but any classes you take in america are geared more toward women larping self defense. I wouldn't recommend it, mix Judo with striking practice.
