This board is completely dead. Should we buy a banner and try to generate more traffic? Or should we migrate to a different community or forum?

What are some good alternatives?

I haven't had time to watch anything lately so I haven't been posting very much.

If there was a murmur of activity the board would probably get listed in the topbar. I don't know the exact algorithm, but it favors small boards with recent posts.

I don't have a lot of time to watch but I love discussing and reading others converse about film.

Criterion forum I suppose. I don't have much to say about films anyways.

I stopped watching films for a while due to work and no memory left in my HDD

Back to activity thou, but where is everybody? where are the flags? why is no one reviewing stuff? why is there so much mainstream stuff and not-so-thinly veiled private tracker invite bait?

BO here. Flags were hidden when they quit working for a few days. If people are getting bored with anonymous posting I can bring back the old look.

This board has long struggled to stay active unfortunately. You can see other "/film/ is dead" threads in the catalog. Typically we get about 30-50 posts per week, but I wish it were more. Word of mouth would help -- mention the board to people on other parts of the internet.

Every new post helps too. Everyone knows this but I'm saying it anyway. There are dozens of open-ended topics in the catalog. The "last watched" thread in particular has been inactive for 6-7 weeks >>6630

Let me know if you guys have other thoughts about improving things here.

I think, so far from what i've seen, that the board has been managed pretty well, no complains from me at least, but our dead state actually doesn't come from quality but from userbase

Almost no boards get high activity outside /v/ and /pol/, the latter even receiving a batch of youth newfags (500+) in the last months due to the election, and quite honestly most of those guys aren't really about movies, nor /v/ which, even with a severe lack of good games, have a lot of stuff for their time. We have actually managed well compared to the vast majority of boards

Advertising the board is a decent idea, it might... it WILL bring folks with a somewhat different perspective from most users here but it will give activity, at least for a week. Problem is that if we get too many it might break into a /tv/-tier Hollywood feetposting

The best time to advertise would be in the early December, when most folks are on vacation or get more relaxed on their jobs

Or advertise this place as a thinly-veiled/non-confirmed private tracker chat, which is risky but gives those guys a lot more liberty than in their native forums. It's not like i want an invite or anything but their forums are tough alleys to post shit, at least the 'Tik. Problem would be the invite beggars, once upon a time old /mu/ tried something like that, it might have worked for some what.cd/waffles users, which i saw many, but last.fm was the big break in vitality, but also fucked their catalog.

Lots of possibilities, and we cannot underestimate the freedom we have here, plus we can say nasty stuff without repercusions unless we spam it

Don't worry, that i can say

An overboard would probably bring more traffic here. It was supposedly "99%" complete a month ago so I don't know what's holding it back.

I'm a little surprised that traffic has not increased as /tv/ became a top board. For whatever reason, new people seem to stay over there.

I think it would help to have more places (outside 8chan) that direct people here. There should be a steady stream of fresh blood. The 8chan userbase is too small and too young to have much to say about obscure films. I've thought about making accounts for this board on mubi or letterboxd, but it takes time to build from zero on those sites.

nah on lbg itd be fast

what if we make a poll list like some zetaboards do? that attracts people, specially if our list looks much different than the regular film canon from other websites

Do you have examples of these zetaboard polls? There are already some original lists ITT >>1253

yeah there are already lists here but we can post em on lbg and mubi so they get more recognized

super champion film zone (which seems to be dead atm) is one of the most famous zetaboards (they moved to letterboxd after mubi forums were kill)

https://letterboxd.com/fliptrotsky/list/top-100-ussr-russia-etc-films-scfz-poll/

we don't have to theme our polls like that, it could just be to show our collective taste so that it'd intrigue people, plus the anon part could draw more people in.

I see. A poll might not get much participation, as with everything else. But we could open it up to all of 8chan with a global announcement: >>>/sudo/9142 That would be better than a banner ad since it would be asking people to come here and participate.

I will take a look at that forum to see how they organized their polls.

 No.8293

If we have a poll, I'm thinking it could be "Name all your favorite films" with a max of about 100 titles per person. Perhaps the ranking system could be weighted to favor lesser known titles.

What do you guys think? If no one else is interested we won't do it.

First I will set up accounts on a few movie sites and make a sticky about it. Then we'll see how much interest there is in doing a poll. I've been preoccupied with other things but I should have more time now.
