For starters I like the method of simply writing down ideas that come to you throughout the day. Otherwise you will forget them.

Sometimes you go back later and the idea is shit, but other times the idea is not so bad.

I suppose David Lynch's "Catching the Big Fish" is an advanced version of this. He talks about "going deep" by expanding your consciousness to reach the "big fish ideas". I can't say whether or not this would help you, but it's worth considering if you are interested in creativity.

What kind of ideas would you like to have?

I've done more with music than film. Usually I don't start with much of an idea, but I can come up with something interesting if I sit down and experiment with the instrument (or software) for a while.

I wonder if that approach would work in film, at least in establishing a sketch of what you want to do. I feel like it's better to film a lot of things and see what develops from it. If you don't DO anything because you are waiting for a eureka moment, your mind won't be in "film mode", and maybe you won't think of anything very good.

Al principio pensé que el mejor método para escribir un guión era: Escribir una historia (cuento), armar secuencias cronológicas sobre escenas de los distintos persoanejs y luego mezclarlas. Pero luego entendí que es mas fácil adaptar algo ya escrito por alguien mucho mas hábil que uno en crear historias. Tratar de traducir los niveles de conocimientos del narrador y de los personajes te obligan a pensar formas de dosificar la información además de maneras de trabajar el plano de la expresión en cuanto relación de saberes del gran imaginador (el narrador implícito) con el narrado explícito y/o personajes.

También otra fuente de inspiración son las canciones de artistas que le den importancia a sus letras y generalmente cuentan una historia en ella. Parecen guiónes, son muy visuales. En uruguay creo que el mejor ejemplo de ese tipo de letras son las de La Hermana Menor

Interesante, anon, tu dices que es mejor adaptar una historia de un libro, por ejemplo? Estoy remirando muchas películas de Kubrick ultimamente y el era un maestro en hacer eso.

Me gusta leer libros e imaginar como lo podría contar eso en la pantalla, pero también me interesa crear histórias nuevas y originales.

LA adaptación, cuando es leve, loose, puede desembocar en una historia original. Por ejemplo, intentando adaptar un libro en el cual el narrador enuncia explicitamente que el es el creador de los personajes. ¿Cómo traduzco eso a una película?. El intento de traducir la manera en que se da la información en una novela o cuento puede hacerte ver mecanismos formales del lenguaje audiovisual que s epueden usar para contar cosas que no necesariamente tengan que ver con la historia del cuento o novela. Te hacen descubrir maneras, dispositivos, interfaces.

Pensar como se presentan los personajes, que porcentaje de la pelicula se dedica a cada cosa, etc. Por ejemplo, la mitad de la novela que estoy intentando adaptar presenta a los personajes de la siguiente manera: 40% del libro sobre un personaje, 40% sobre el otro (nunca en paralelo, aparecen sucesivos) y el otro 20 es el final en el que se encuentran dentro de la historia. Puedo pensar esa manera de relacionar y presentar personajes porque esa novela me los sugirió. Y no necesariamente usar el contenido de esa novela.

i already have some projects i want to work in the long future, nowadays it´s just thinking about the story itself, asking myself what if this plays out in a certain way and so on, changing some things that obviously can´t work, most of the projects i will working will be book to film adaptations so it saves me time about having coming up with an original story (which i suck doing it lol)

I have ideas, but sometimes I have trouble transferring my ideas into clear, crisp writing. So in trying to boost my written communication skills, I found this nice list of tips.

I think some of her advice for literature could be transferred to film as well...

. Literature is not high school and it’s not actually necessary to know what everyone around you is wearing, in terms of style, and being influenced by people who are being published in this very moment is going to make you look just like them, which is probably not a good long-term goal for being yourself or making a meaningful contribution. At any point in history there is a great tide of writers of similar tone, they wash in, they wash out, the strange starfish stay behind, and the conches. Check out the bestseller list for April 1935 or August 1978 if you don’t believe me.
