I've been enjoying the IDW comic more than probably a good chunk of people, but I will admit that this issue did focus on the goodbyes a bit too much. I still enjoyed the Metal/Eggman/Starline/R&T stuff, while the interactions with Sonic & his friends wasn't bad despite it taking up a lot of the issue, but it still had its problems.
That being said, there's an obvious direction with IDW now & it seems like the comic knows where it wants to go & want it wants to do with Year 2, which is good in my opinion.

Personally, I enjoyed this. I'll admit to there being some problems (mostly Tumble lamenting the lost of his mechanical tail feeling like it came out of nowhere), but the art was great, Sonic & Tails doing the R+T routine was nice, I am stoked for this liquid roboticization thing they're doing. And I really loved the scene of the woodland critters & Eggman/Starline.

Yeah, that last story was pretty weird. It was great seeing Jon Gray do interior Sonic art again, but the whole thing just felt like filler to me, although seeing a Dot Warner lookalike as a Sonic Worldian is pretty humorous

I'm glad that Starline isn't a total chump. Sonic powering through his despair with sheer determination was a cool moment. And it's interesting to see Eggman's selfish desire for a peaceful life pitted against his selfless desire to create a utopia. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here.

It gets a bit annoying to me that every time he fucks up and gets more infected he just runs and it gets fixed. I know he's the main hero and that's what he does and all that, and it would have been fine if it was used sparingly but he does this all the time and effectively seems like he could just keep doing it with barely any downsides. It just doesn't seem cool or believable for me at this point.

That's not exactly what's happening. The infection isn't being "fixed", it's just being held at bay, requiring more and more effort from Sonic to stave it off as he keeps fighting zombots and gets more and more infected by touching them. Having to run around to avoid being taken over has already interfered with his rescue attempts once or twice, and since he's been running constantly for days now with only brief naps to keep from keeling over outright, his stamina is depleted and he's approaching the point where he'll be too exhausted to move fast enough to keep from becoming a zombot.

I feel those details are too small in the face of everything else that we've seen, like how much Sonic has rubbed on the zombots and how infected he has gotten but was always able to get relatively clean again, and the amount of time he's been able to keep this up for. He's been infected since the beginning of the arc and has been running almost non stop since then to prevent the virus from infecting him completely, an amount of time that was enough for Eggman to be able to capture pretty much every place in the continuity.
