I'm a former member of the old VN project. I'm still involved with the team, but I'm not a major contributor anymore, because I've been working on a project of my own:

Introducing Super Filovirus Sisters, an RPG starring Ebola-chan, Lloviu-tan, and Marburg-sama.

This game takes place in a similar world as the other project, but it's a separate continuity.

It takes place after Ebola-chan has wiped out humanity, and deals with the aftermath this has caused in the virus world.

Release date is some time next year. More details later.

The girl in white is Epilepsy. She acts as an idol for the dead people in the dead world. She will be an optional boss, and upon beating her you learn the seizure skill.

In the past Epilepsy was more of a loner, but ever since becoming an idol for the dead she's become a lot more outgoing and energetic.

I want to finish the story by New Year, and after that work on stuff like balance, polish, and the optional bosses.

It was intentional, but in retrospect I think it shouldn't be that way.

I made it that way so you can't continue the story without Marburg joining you. She was set to level 100 if you're alone.

I just patched the demo so she'll be level 20 like normal, so people like you who want to challenge themselves can get the challenge they're looking for.

Also, after beating Cure-chan Marburg will automatically join you to avoid story problems.

Welp, finally got around playing the demo *thanks, wörk and buy, the level of want is massive. While I had little clue about what to do (I avoided all fights and got my ass handed to be once I had to), a very fun experience. Love the design. Love you. Love you too, Ebola-chan**

Small bug report: In the tower (large area) I hiz a macro-key wich presses x a whole lot. It caused the pause menu to appear for a bit and then the game froze. It had saved though, so no problems after F5.

Browser games have a lot of pros and cons.

The biggest pro in my opinion is that you can play from almost any computer, no matter what operating they're running and even if it's not your computer. I remember playing a lot of flash games on school computers when I was a kid. That's also how I played Minecraft for the first time, back when it could be played in a browser.

The biggest con is of course the reduced power when compared to native games. Browser games typically have a lot less resources to work with. Another problem is different browsers behaving differently, but that can usually be mitigated using libraries.

The main reason I'm using HTML5 is simply because it's what I'm most familiar with.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong to make the save manager unable to load an exported save after I've closed the browser; both Firefox and Chrome are having this issue. Would anyone happen to have any ideas as to what I should do? If it matters, I picked the vanilla option to play the game, not Canvas or WebGL.

Sorry about the confusion, the canvas and webgl options don't actually do anything yet, they're meant for the next demo.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It seems there's a bug with the save manager which causes it to fail to work if you try to import a file to a browser that's never had a save file.

For now, you can work around this by starting a new game, and then importing your save. Make sure you let Llov get out of bed, that's when the game first saves.

The next zone isn't ready yet, but here's an update anyway. The demo still ends at the same place, but there's some other new features added.

Including overworld music, an updated deadworld tileset, excel forms, and rare red mobs which are a higher level than normal but drop more items. Plus other minor tweaks.

The music takes a bit to load, so I put loading screens between each zone where I'll load the music. I want to try and reduce the loading time in the future.

The game is good so far but may I make a suggestion?

Is there any way you can give the satanic circles a teleporting property to make it easier to travel back to places you've already been?

There also seems to be a glitch where items you've already picked up re-appear after a game over but they don't stack in your inventory. Ive encountered this bug when I went back through the underground tunnel and picked up the steel pipe for a second time. Hope this helps.

The reason the steel pipe doesn't stack is because equipment are considered unique.

The only thing I can think of that would cause items to respawn is if you are using an old save from before the update, since I changed how the game tracks which items you've picked up. Does this apply to you?

I think I'll add an item to the game that will teleport you to any pentagram you've visited. It'll be crafted with grave dust and something else. I'll probably have Joki tell the player about the recipe.

Neat game anon. I'd like to make a few quality-of-life suggestions if you don't mind:

* faster movement option or run button

* option for instantly-appearing dialogue text

* ability to toggle menu/select/talk sounds separately from other sounds (they got old after a bit)

You should put in a secret recipe for a weapon that lets you 1 hit KO everything, or simply have it be the strongest weapon in the game. Something that you won't likely be able to come up with by randomly throwing shit together. I think it's pretty comfy when a game gives you a sort of cheat code at the end that lets you breeze through the game next time you play, or gives you a hint that could lead to that.

Also, you should use something like node-webkit when the full game is complete, so people can download a copy. It's really fun.

I think the flow of leveling in the beginning is a bit fucked up. I replayed the game yesterday and was stuck on Cure-chan for about an hour or so WITH Marburg. When you get to Cure-chan, you're about 11 - 13 and at that level she absolutely one shots you if you're not lucky. And for a mini boss like Nae, I shouldn't be stuck on her for an hour or so. I like the challenge she gives but after a while its more annoying than fun. I would suggest maybe upping XP that is dropped to get you more in line with her level (say about 17 - 19) by the time you encounter her. I shouldn't have to grind a bunch just to beat her, grinding excessively is not fun and not rewarding. It's ok if ZMAPP provides a huge challenge because of the way she's presented and encountered. But Cure-chan isn't a big boss, but she is a big woman.

I don't really understand how you can get stuck on Nae for an hour. It only takes a few minutes to get to level 5, and after that she's pretty easy.

Maybe you never got the kendo stick. That item is probably a bit too important early in the game.

I think I'll weaken the kendo stick a little and rebalance the Nae battle to make it doable without equipment.

As for Cure, I think you're right that if you go straight for her you do seem to arrive a bit underlevelled. Getting there at level 11 though sounds to me like you've been avoiding battles too much.

I'm definitely going to try and improve the level progression. Your feedback is appreciated.

If you're interested in hacking the game, let me share this fun little trick.

If you open the javascript console and type something like:

llov.loadTexture('leps');

You can change what overworld sprite the characters use, and make it look like you're playing as someone else.

The names of the sprites this currently works with is llov, ebby, marb, mal, bp, joki, herpes, pox, leps, sars, aids1, aids2, rab, cure, and zmapp.

When I put llov as zmapp however, I noticed that her diagonal walk was was kinda off putting. Upon closer inspection I realized that her head wasn't static, but seemed to jolt backwards when heading right diagonally.

Some bugs I found:

There's a Mimick that outright freezes the game when defeated. (pic related)

When I equipped mister sword as any of the party members, and went to 'status' the game would freeze and who ever had the sword would have a empty box next to them. I have to unequip via items to get it off, can't go to status.

My view on the new level:

The overall layout is ok, but some parts like getting to the bosses is very clunky. I don't really feel like I'm instructed or guided to them (you can do this subtlety, not blatant). It's also very annoying going to them and trying to figure out the path while trying to make sure you're not triggered into a random battle constantly. This was a problem in the Tower puzzle area, and a problem here. I can't really explore if I'm constantly going into a random battle, really breaks the flow for me. The 'delta' itself is kinda hard to navigate and hard to keep track off due to these problems. The idea itself is creative, I think the level needs to be tweaked more.

I liked the boss fights w/ Sars and Rabies. Rabies was alot of fun due to the potential ways to deal with it by using the water bottle or the meat to distract her. Sars was fun because it forced me to mix up my abilities to deal with her specifically. They were well balanced and not a brick wall like Cure-chan.

Aids battle is a problem. I killed the first Aids that has the Devastate ability. But he still devastated me and the two one shot my party. How is he still attacking if I killed him? After I died and returned to the battle, I killed the 2nd one first and it worked as intended. Am I suppose to kill the 2nd one first? I tried to constantly seziure the first one so I wouldn't get devastate nullifying the 2nd one's depokin. But he would unluckily apply Devastate to me and then the other one would do Depokin on one team mate one shotting them. I like the risk aspect of this fight but I feel this is unfair. Another thing, you give ointment at the side of the fight, but it is a pain in the ass to constantly use ointment every time I get a devastate, even worse when the 2nd one goes RIGHT after the first aids-san. Also didn't like that Aids 1 would just hit me for 4k+ damage after killing the 2nd one, making the whole fight a waste of time and forcing me to restart.

Cute game, OP! Just saw it on /pol/ and played up until Cure-chan. Reposting my bug reports/suggestions:

In the second pic, Joki is visible in two locations at once with the right window size.

The player should be moved a step or two away from a boss after they flee from it, or having an arrow key held down can cause them to immediately restart the encounter. Either that or don't let the player run from bosses at all.

Lovely Bow claims to increase the damage of arrow skills, but Lavuli Aero does more damage with the Kendo Stick. Might just be a quirk of damage scaling early on, I didn't bother to retest later in the game.

Combat dialogues should take one keypress to autocomplete, and one more to skip. As is pressing space once skips the dialogue completely.

An option to increase "voice" dialogue speed would be nice.

"Quit" should warn you that you are about to lose progress.

"Cancel" in the Ex-Orb menu should warn you that you will lose the orb

Descriptions when hovering over status effects in combat would be nice

Typo in the third pic. Should read "6 million souls required to rekindle the soul cluster."

My mistake. Here's what happened:

>I used the excel orb and hit cancel.

>I didn't see it anywhere in my inventory (must have overlooked it) and assumed it was gone

>I hit quit hoping to get it "back." When I reloaded, I was back at a pentagram and I saw the excel orb in my inventory, so I assumed I had lost progress/that the game is only saved at pentagrams.

I started work on the game about 2 years ago.

Most of it is just code, but the maps are made with a program called Tiled.

I think the most challenging part was staying motivated to work on it. Part of the reason development has dragged on so long despite being a relatively small game is because there were some points where I would go weeks without working on the game because I became preoccupied with something else.

Another challenge was working with other people's code. Most of the time using a game engine/framework is really convenient and makes your life easier, but occasionally it does something you don't understand because either there's something wrong with the engine or you're just using it wrong. Working around problems like that can be really tough.

There's still a few voodoo bugs that I don't understand and probably will never be able to fix. Most bugs are pretty easy to fix, but some can be super frustrating.

I decided to start learning C++ during high school, so anywhere from 4 to 6 years ago. I don't know exactly. Nowadays I usually work more with higher level languages like JavaScript though.

Also I used to make terrible games in Game Maker and stuff back when I was a little kid.

Is just my wizardly powers or is gambling bugged? Everytime I bet 1 cromudgeon or whatever it's called, I lose, and everytime I bet everything I win. I also know intuitively every single time before betting what the outcome will be. Just to test, when I knew it would be a lose I bet 3 cromudgions just to see that I could lose more than 1. Every single time I rolled the dice with herpeschan I knew the outcome. I got my heroes all the armour and other stuff I wanted really early in the game just through gambling.

I said I wouldn't add multiplayer, but I found a way to make it kinda-sorta work by using a node server separate from my web hosting account.

Don't expect anything major, this still isn't a multiplayer game.

Next I'm going to work on improving the text input to allow in-game chat.

This will be available in the next demo, which will also have almost everything that will be in the final game.

I'm also adding some hooks to make it easier to mod the game.

Have some small stuff to report

In the battle with Sars her eye looks messed up, I'm pretty sure this is either a strange glitch that messed with the image or it's just my computer.

And another thing at the end of the demo When I give Lloviu the million souls, the scenario with ebola-chan and marburg talking about finding zmapp chan plays very abruptly. I think having a different 'cutscene' for feeding Lloviu the million souls could fix it, but I'm not sure

Found a game breaking bug regarding the Mister Sword equip item.

When whoever is holding the sword attacks, the game freezes. This applies to all the party members.

About Sars' eye, I think it's a rounding error. I usually notice that bug on the overworld sprites, but it fixes itself once I move.

I played for a while, at least until memory leaks crashed my browser. :( Is there a game mode that might be better for avoiding that?

I got to Marburg with slightly more overall exp on Llov than Marburg has. I was kind of avoiding enemies - is it just really easy to overlevel, or is the scaling of new party members inexact, or what?

If I can't collect more than 2 Pine Sap, why does it let me take the counter higher, lol? At least if it wraps around it should wrap back after the max.

Also, I'd never have thought to check the pine tree for collectibles. Found it by accident. Not sure why that pine tree was special, either.

I did not guess that I could walk thru these various bushes.

It would be really nice to have a way to see item descriptions before purchasing something in the shop.

And to go with that, it would be nice to see the actual stats of gear when viewing its description.

How do I use 200% SP attacks? I thought I'd just have to pass my turn and keep accumulating, but apparently not.

Variances on the result of just about anything, healing or damage, seem kind of swingy.

I find that the game performs a lot better on chrome than on firefox. You could also try switching to canvas mode and see if that helps. I don't know if it will.

Pine sap can be gathered from any pine tree, but you need glass vials. Right now it just does nothing if you don't have any vials, but I'll fix it to give you a message instead. I'll also mention this in some of the item descriptions.

Yeah, I'll add item descriptions to the shop. I don't think there's enough room on the screen to fit the stat changes though. Maybe I can squeeze it in.

You need to use your excel orb to increase your SP past 100%. I should make that more clear.

The swingy damage and healing is because of critical hits. You get a critical hit if you level up during an attack, or with a small chance based on your luck stat. I should add a visual effect to make it more apparent.

Artilery shot is like that because of space limitation. I can only fit 13 characters in a line on those narrow menus. I'm working on remaking the font though, so I might be able to rename it later.

You get one orb from each boss you defeat.

One orb from Naegleria, one from Cure-chan, one from Zmapp, etc.

By the end of the demo you'll have enough orbs to unlock all the excel forms.

And yes, the excel potions do work, provided you've used your excel orbs.

Valentine Demo

6 new bosses have been added to the game.

I'm not done balancing yet, so some of the bosses might be too hard and some might be too easy.

Pretty soon I will focus more on balancing and bug fixing. There's also some more loading screens I want to add to the game (4 of them), and I need to finish making sprites for all the costumes. There's also some dialog that's still missing.

After I decide the game is complete, I will provide the downloadable version of the game along with a few instructions on how to modify or translate the game.

Something worth noting is that I changed the recipe for teleport scrolls. There's a feature in the game that remembers the recipe for items you've crafted before, so it might lie to you a little until you craft it again.

Played through the game multiple times to check for glitches. Mostly just nitpicks and suggestions. Sorry if it's long as fuck.

The 'normal dialogue' effect sound constantly going up and down in pitch is irritating. It works for the voices of the NPC's since it mimics pitches in normal voices, but with the regular text (such as when you get pine sap from a tree), it becomes bothersome

The 'critical' effect could maybe use work, it's a bit disorienting when it suddenly zooms in when you do high damage. Maybe make the number of damage dealt when crit get bigger (ala getting a crit in WoW, the # of dmg dealt is much bigger and zooms in)

I think the animation for Epilepsys 'flashing lights' move might be a bit much, maybe try something more subdued?

There seems to be a small glitch, where if you click too fast in dialogue before a battle, the arrow appears above the GUI and you have to refresh, first pic.

I can't seem to find a way to rearrange the position of my party members unless I force them to drown/die.

After giving Llov one million souls and heading to the village, interacting with Chikun causes this glitch and it freezes the game (second picture).

However, it worked when I turned off multiplayer oddly.

When the cure crew is spared, talking to CC at the camp causes the battle with her again.

I really respect your dedication, the game is fun and the art is really fucking nice.

I really like the game, I played all 3 demos and I'm excited for the release. I just have some minor gripes about the pacing and "feel" of the game near the end.

I loved the first demo's levels. Going from the hub > dead world> cure-chan boss > tower puzzle > zmap-chan boss. Felt really cool! It's just that everything after that feels rushed. Not the bosses, but the levels. You go straight to the delta and fight the 3 bosses, then go to Earth. It's very sudden.

There's no build up to either places. I especially feel this way about Earth. You find the password, and start the final boss fight right away. I don't have to figure out any puzzles or go through any dungeons, it just throws me on earth. It's just very anti-climatic.

Earth itself feels pretty small. I would expect that a entirely devastated world would have a good amount of cool stuff to explore with devastated buildings and other little areas instead of one half being graves and destroyed buildings, and another being a wintery forest with the lab in the middle of it.

On the topic of expanding earth, I would think that the other enemy tans of ebola could possibly still be lurking around, maybe as hidden bosses, or just midbosses? I liked the concept of side bosses like Zika and stuff waiting around to be found by you, maybe finding them on Earth to reach the final boss could be interesting.

The game's alot of fun. It's come a long way when I first played it. Keep improving it!

Okay, I've updated the game with some bug fixes. The bugs with the broken menu, Chikun-chan, and Mister Sword should all be fixed.

Also, I added a new feature where when you're defeated in battle it kicks you out to the title screen without saving. This means you will be returned the state before the battle happened. Any experience gained during the battle will be lost, and any items you used will be restored.

The main reason I did this was that I felt the autosave function might discourage players from using items. If you spent a lot of time preparing a bunch of items for a tough battle and lose, then you've just wasted your time. But now you can prepare once and then try as many times as you need.

She is a bit tough, but she's definitely beatable. It takes a bit of luck to fight through the seizures, but I can beat her pretty reliably. She also becomes a lot easier if you come back later in the game to fight her. Remember she is an optional boss.

If they have less HP, they're easier to kill. It's similar to lowering defense.

Since healing power is tied to the user's max HP, using it against a healer is very effective, as you said.

When I beat the game, all the dead characters appear around the lab, even though I didn't revive them all. I only revived Sars and gave Nagleria's sould to Plague-chan.

I also chose to kill Cure and Zmapp, but upon entering the building they are alive and remark on how I spared them.

UPDATE

Fixed a lot of bugs.

All of the costumes now change the overworld sprites and dialog portraits.

All of the loading screens are done.

Draco is now a fightable post-game boss.

Other small improvements.

There's still some bugs I haven't been able to fix, and some other areas that I could still improve. I could spend forever working on this game, but I think it's time to move on. With this, I consider the game to be complete.

I see you improved on Chaos Ebola too. I like it. Although, what exactly does Isolate do? I'm guessing it prevents the target from healing/buffing allies AKA ultimate Eidzu-killer?

Although Draco was kinda easy. She always uses Time Bomb when there isn't one on the field, so killing her is as simple as having Ebola-chan spam Purge while Marburg-sama charges nukes. On the upside that move was finally useful.

Glad to see Love Tap finally being useful too. Combined with Pestilent, it is actually OP.

I think there's something to be learned from this: A vibrant team of cultists from a bright, new community full of hope and energy gathers together under the banner of Ebola-chan to make a VN. Each member specializes in their own field. Hundreds of fellow death-worshippers exitedly throw money at them so they can spend less time at work and more time on the project. Yet within a year the whole thing falls apart never to be finished, just like the vast majority of 4skin and h8chan collaborations.

Then some random friend decides to do his own thing and casually completes it by himself at his own pace without any startup donation or income beyond a dusty buttcoin wallet in the corner of his website, and although it takes him nearly 2 years -twice as long as he expected- he chugs along and actually finishes the project, just for the amusement of the few autists remaining on a dead board on a website as barren, depressing and spiritually desolate as the last level of his game. All because he simply wanted to make a game about his genocidal virus goddess.

Have you fought Joki yet? because it looks like I forgot to put a very important item in the game. Joki is supposed to drop her scythe, but she doesn't drop it. Oops.

Type acquire(items.scythe) into the console to get it if you already beat her.

If you haven't fought her yet, clear your cache and follow these directions to find her:

Find Famine in the graveyard. He'll tell you about a castle in the northern part of the dead world, which will unlock the path to it. You'll find Joki in her castle, and after beating her she'll drop a scythe that will let you easily kill the monsters in the Abyss.

Yeah I found that bug too, but for the life of me I can't figure out what's causing it :(

Hold on, I think I finally figured it out. When I updated to the new version of Phaser I had to change how the body (for collisions) is positioned. The body is supposed to be connected to the player's position, so when the player sinks it stays still. Instead, it is connected to the player's sprite, so when the player sinks it moves downward along with the sprite.

To fix this, I need to make sure the body's offset gets updated when I crop the sprite.

Hopefully there's no more serious bugs after this because I plan on releasing the download soon.

The download version runs really sCuckh, and the load times are almost instant. It's the ideal way to play the game.

I've only been able to test the windows version though, so if anyone wants to confirm that it works fine on mac and linux, it would be appreciated. There shouldn't be any problems though.

All the game's files have been left in the open, so if anyone wants to mod or translate the game, they can get started.

To translate the game, find the folder at filosis_data/mod/language

Copy en.txt, and name it after the langage you're translating into.

Keep in mind, the file is named like a text file, but it's actually json.

The file contains every bit of dialog and other translatable text, in key:value pairs. Leave the key as it is. Edit the value into the translated text.

Before the game will recognize this file, you need to edit script.js. Add your new language file to the preload function, and change the default language. The commented sections show you how to do this.

You could try downloading the latest nw.js from https://nwjs.io/ if you don't trust the one packaged with the game. Otherwise, you'd have to mark the file as safe somehow and restore it from quarantine to play it. Assuming the game is safe to begin with, your antivirus would likely find issue with the latest nw.js as well, so you would probably need to do that last part anyway.

Seeing as the game source can be viewed, as can nw.js, it's pretty easy to verify the game is safe.

Hey, sorry I haven't dropped in in a while.

So the multiplayer feature is probably going to stop working in a few days. I had it on a free Openshift 2 account, but I got an email telling me it's going to be deleted.

To fix it, I'd need to move the server somewhere else, and also update the client so it can find the new server.

Honestly, I don't think the game gets enough traffic for multiplayer to matter much. I've only seen other people online at the same time as me a few times. If there were more asynchronous multiplayer features, like leaving messages on the ground, I think that'd make more sense.

So what do you think? Should I fix multiplayer? Should I expand it?

When making choices, are the arrows supposed to be so randomly aligned vertically? They don't feel consistent from one choice to the next at all. You would expect the arrow to always be in the middle of the first line of the choice or the middle of the entire choice, but on some choices it is centered properly and on some it is near the bottom of the line even on single-line choices, as if where the arrow appears has been arbitrarily hardcoded in but the coordinates are wrong or something. Example oekaki, can't be assed to open the game right now. Running 1.1.1 on Linux. I feel like it didn't do this in the old versions, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Exact scaling is on and makes no difference, draws the arrow in the same spot.

I'm currently working on two things. First is an expansion for Super Filovirus Sisters, called "Madness Hen".

Aside from that, I actually have 3 new Ebola-chan games lined up. This is only feasible because they all use the same engine I'm working on called "Filament Engine". Filament Engine will be focused on creating visual novels and RPGs. The 3 games planned are as follows:

ECSTE: Ebola-chan Saves the Earth.

A visual novel following you (the skull) when you were alive. It's effectively a prequel to filosis.

Cybola: Ebola-chan in Cyber Space.

An RPG where Ebola-chan becomes a computer virus and infects the internet. This will be a small game.

And finally, Super Filovirus World. Where ECSTE is a prequel to filosis, filoworld follows an alternate ending to ECSTE. It will have many playable characters.

Regarding the arrow problem, I was going to ask if you had a copy of the old font when I remembered I still had a copy of 1.0 stored elsewhere. I tried running the game, only to find the problem was already there, so it doesn't appear to be font related after all. Actually, examining the options menu, it appears correctly oriented in the middle of these bars, but I think for menu items without bars it looks awkward, since you would expect the arrow to be pointing at the middle of the text, not the invisible area behind the text. Strangely, the Back option on this menu looks correct, unlike most other no-bar menu items in the game.
