>inspirational message about not having to be 1:1 with a great animator like James Baxter to be a great animator yourself
>CalArts & Pals take this as an excuse to half-ass all their efforts to the point that character models can't even stay consistent
Well this episode was a goddamn mistake, wasn't it?

Adventure Time as a whole made creators lazy and low effort in everything. Animation, art styles, humor, writing, etc. all went downhill after Adventure Time aired and became this big thing.

Acceptance is a really thin line to walk while producing. At the same time that overestimating the best ones can put you in a place of self disgust, just ignoring them can make you an arrogant piece of shit that use style as an excuse for lack of skills. I actually really liked the James Baxter episode for what it meant.

Looks like it is going to get worse before it gets better. There is a demand for more animation in the U.S. with streaming sites but they are looking at CalArts. This is probably the worse thing to be labeled with renaissance.

People always reinterpret a statement to suit themselves.
You think Jesus wanted the Crusades, the Inquisition, the witch hunts, Buddhists being murdered in pre-war Vietnam, Catholic priests buggering altar boys?
Look at that idiot who said that "Craft is the enemy".
What he meant was, you shouldn't spend too much effort "training", you should work and use work as your training, be productive and learn as you go.
But the anti-art movement, I dunno if there's a name for it, I've heard it called Bauhaus, Dadaist, Socialist, Feminist, Postmodern, Calarts, Soy, but there is a definite anti-Classical movement within art that pillories and excludes anyone trying to master actual skills of draughtsmanship, calling it fascist art or patriarchal competitive oppression or whatever, and "craft is the enemy" was picked up as a rallying cry, not to tell neophyte artists that their work has worth, but to mark craftsman-like artists with solid foundations as the enemy.
People tell me I'm talking bullshit, but I don't think many of you have hung around the art scene as long as I have, and seen classically trained artists excluded in favour of "event" art crawling through orange crates and dancing on butter and shoving yams up your poop chute, or was a part of the 90's indie comic scene and seen the activist-like attitude of "killing superhero comics" that they had.

Oh, I'm sure there's something even more horrific around the corner that'll make us positively nostalgic for the Calarts/Soy age, and we'll all be going WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW GOOD WE HAD IT.
We didn't think things could get worse than Hannah-Barbera, or Filmation, or Rotoscope, or Image, or Pornface, or Poser, or Flash, but the bar keeps lowering.
Next in the quest to see just how little money they'll spend while people still watch it's going to be something like Goanimate, or Elsa and Spiderman, or Pregnant Twilight Sparkle, and minion babies peeing on each other, it's just going to be executives and algorithms, and they'll get rid or the artists and writers and animators altogether.
Fuck the Black Pill, the industry is going full Brown Pill.

Harry finally made a Patreon after talking shit about it years ago. Hypocrite that he is, he's finally free to create and I'm "happy" for him. He's one of the best conventional, independent animators around.
Anyone that wants to learn animation themselves should look into AMB animation academy and Bitey.com. Anything else is practically worthless, and that includes the stuff from Aaron Blaise's website.

You know nothing lasts forever. Just very long times. Take comfort in the fact that 300 years after the fall of the Pan-Eurochinafrican megstate empire, the Pari-Denmarkian Alliance will dig through the data vaults that where hidden away by the Art-Preservation Coalition and use it to rediscover the lost art of actual decent cartoons.
It will not be in your lifetime though.

I think most episodes in season 6 are unwatchable that one included. Finn and Jake try to mimic James and spend half the episode practicing their retardation. The episode ends with some random skeleton ghost which I'm pretty sure was included to fill up the 11 minutes. To say that episode is why animation sucks is pure retardation.

I think that the first 3 seasons were well crafted when it comes to the designs background music and story. All the writers, storyboarders, artists, and musicians contributed quite a bit to make it unique and establish a mood. Adventure Time started to suck because those people that made it great move on to other projects.

Adventure time was, along with every western cartoon since the 80s, outsourced to the same korean studios that also animate anime. Artistic skill has absolutely nothing to do with the way western cartoons are made. The only things ever done inhouse are storyboards and model sheets. They have nothing to do with the pictures you see on screen, and they haven't since before you were born
Adventure time also didn't do dick to animation. The noodle armed simple shapes look has been a thing in TV animation since at least the early 90s with the likes of Doug and Hey Arnold, and has existed even longer in short films, commercials and TV bumpers.
>>1052947
Western television has never been art, and the practice of outsourcing means TV animation is even more artless. Go watch short films if you want art.
You also know nothing about art school, which is an objective fact.
