Fasting before baptism is an ancient practice commanded in the didache, so yes you ought to.

If you have family that would want to see it make sure you have a recording. Also make sure you go all the way in

Welcome Fren. Yes, you have the right idea about fasting. If you're interested, somewhere along the way, churches started doing mass baptisms in the Spring (at Pascha/"Easter"), and there was a period of fasting and learning scripture before that (now it's called Lent). But you can get baptized at any period, and still follow this preparation period in your own time. Peace :)
