Maybe in the same way that there are Atheist "Christians" that follow Jesus but don't believe in God, as in they're not. Why even be such a watered down version of a "Christian" why not just be a Satanist if you want to believe that God is evil snake lion.
God would rather you be a full on Satanist than a lukewarm Christian.
>Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

That's a modern Khemian Orthodox icon of Athanasy of Alexandreia, and not Valentine the Gnostic. In better versions of that image you can even read part of the Nicaian confession in English on the scroll which he is shown holding.
Here's a contemporary icon style depiction actually dedicated to the Gnostic theologian.

Except Gnosticism has had a historical place in Christianity since the 1st century. You do realize that your form of Christianity was just one of the many proto-orthodoxies before Nicea that became "mainstream" due to complex and unique historical circumstances, right? But even afterwards there were multiple competing Catholic groups that became Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, Nestorianism, Arianism, etc. Gnosticism is just a subversive/mystical interpretation of the creation story. Sorry, but "orthodox" Trinitarians don't have a monopoly over Christianity.

But the Nag Hammadi library was discovered in 1946.
