Is it possible to commit an unforgiveable sin? I'm terrified by the idea, and I know other anons are too. Jesus said blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would not be forgiven, so why is it that every time the topic is brought up someone reassures us that we cannot commit an unforgiveable sin? Although we are also taught that we can be forgiven for any sin and to think we are beyond forgiveness is sinful. How do we know if we've committed an unforgiveable sin? Very confused.

No, it is not possible.
Scrupulosity is a sin, anon. Repent, confess and see a mental health professional.

Your sins are unforgivable when you decide not to confess them. This is a state some people find them selves in, for what ever reason you no longer value salvation. Possibly you have decided that there is no redemption for you, and thus you decide any effort to accept God's mercy is futile. When you reach this state, that is when it is unforgivable, when you have refused forgiveness.
'To blaspheme the Holy Spirit, according to our Holy Father, “does not properly consist in offending against the Holy Spirit in words; it consists rather in the refusal to accept the salvation which God offers to man through the Holy Spirit, working through the power of the cross”'

Asking a question such as this isn't scrupulosity, and it is not sinful.

Blasphemy (in this case, against the holy spirit, the only sin biblically declared as unforgivable) is traditionally defined as positive action, not failure to act.

Failure to act is a free choice. There is either ignorance of choice, or a choice one way or another; there is no "failure to act", only a choice not to.

Even the act of contrition during the mass acknowledges a difference. "..in what I have done and in what I have failed to do"

Literal Prot here, why do we need to confess our sins to another person? Why can't we just pray an Act of Contrition and confess each sin to God?

Can you confess them to just anyone then?

There is only one sin that will not be forgiven. The one sin is the rejection of the spirit, for your heart is home to it as a divine spark. If one completely devoids himself of the spirit, then he becomes possessed with evil. That man is a shell, and has no spirit of life him in. Anyone who has a spark of life in him, that man has hope.

Confess to yourself first before you confess unto God, do not confess what is not true and the spirit will testify in favor of you. Do not confess unto men for forgiveness, but for assistance, they are not to be your judges but to help their brothers and sisters.

I don't know where I read it or heard it but I remember being exposed to the idea that Sin has a two-dimensional nature being both an affront to God as well as your fellow Catholics. When you ask God for forgiveness, this abolishes the Godly aspect but leaves the Catholic aspect intact. Only the Priest can truly remove both aspects of your sins.

To add onto this, rejecting the Catholic Church counts as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit so therefore if you call yourself a Christian but you aren't part of the Church then you are by definition committing an unforgivable sin and you aren't saved.

You're definitely in a state of grave sin, but there can be potential mercy for those outside the church. Still, hoping you just might get purgatory doesn't bode well.

The unforgivable sin is to receive God's grace of knowing Him but you still reject Him. So I supposed you're good
