The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Probably one of my worst sins by far, along with sexual immorality (masturbation/porn).

Sloth (extreme procrastination) is ruining my life and I don't know how to fight it. I believe in "Ora et Labora" in theory ("Pray and Work"), but in practice, I'm even more Sloth than a Jew and it tortures my soul for close to 10 years, or pretty much every since I was becoming a teenager and had a little responsibilty for school among other things.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one to struggle with this, with this procrastination things when we ought to work for school, for work, for personal skills, for studying, for learning a language, for reading a book, for physical activity, for spiritual matters, … So maybe somebody could help me here, and pray for me hopefully.

Anyway, do you have any pragmatically advices and also any spiritual advices to deal with sin ?

My main problem for me is not smartphones or TV, but it's my PC Monitor and spend all my time standing in front of my monitor lurking in the internet, watching youtube videos and watching porn and masturbating (hopefully, I've dropped to 3 times of masturbation per week on average but it's still a lot).

Easy solution: Volunteer your time to charity work (soup kitchen, pet shelter, church upkeep, etc) and pray the rosary everyday.

More drastic solution: smash all your screens, sell your computer and vidya. Go to Church everyday, volunteer and pray the rosary and other chaplets everyday

I assume these sins compliment each other, and you’re driven to one because of the other. Like the other anons said, fill your time with productive things; especially spiritual ones. On top of all this, I’d recommend hitting the gym, lifting and running to burn off excess energy. I’d you still find yourself trying to fill vacant time, try the spiritual exercises of Ignatius Loyola. I’ll try to keep you in my prayers. God bless.

It might be Sloth but it might be something else anon. Offer yourself to the Lord Jesus and ask him to discern what it is.

For me personally I thought it was Sloth and Lust but it turned out to be Pride. My Pride that I thought I knew better then the Lord. The best way to combat it it building up a strong prayer life.

Pray an Act of Contrition. Even if you are not Catholic you should be doing this daily it isn’t large sins that destroy us but the accumulation of small sins on the soul that break us down and leave us open to larger sins.

Avoiding your computer alone will probably not work. You must find a way to get overwhelming necessity to do things and develop self-discipline.

Of course, ask God for virtues, ask help to fight against your vices, and sloth is a terrible one, because it causes lack of initiative.

But about human nature, seek to develop self-discipline: every lawful thing you can do to avoid slacking around and you can make it into a habit will be good. You can look to /pol/'s advices like taking cold showers, exercising yourself within some goals, fasting within some goal (apathy for eating doesn't count), sleeping for 8 hours (no more no less) and only while it's dark, waking up before the sun rises or along the sun (if the season allows it) or within some determined time, going out for a walk or for running within some determined time or goal (there are anons who nightwalk because they have no motivation to do it otherwise), scheduling your study, regular prayer and leisure times, going regularly to the church etc. You also should be well fed, with quality food and supplements as well. If you can count on other people, count on them to keep your goals.

Initiative is a hard thing to have when you're self-"disciplined" to be lazy. You may suffer with indiscipline or negative discipline, they are both a problem, the last one is worse. You may be suffering of a mild depression and you don't know it. You should try everything at your reach (but if things are bad you probably won't even "try" it) and, then, go to a psychiatrist if everything fails or if you suffer from suicidal thoughts. As I said, you could be suffering even from depression without knowing it. Before everything, you should also check your blood for iodine and testosterone and, of course, always check if your nutrition is alright. Zinc, vitamin D, iodine, magnesium… These are things we use to lack nowadays. Pay attention to it.

Don't be shy to ask for help from people you know. It's better to reveal your weakness to others than to drown on it alone. And, of course, ask God for strength, so you can develop discipline and finish things you started.

Discipline is the key thing here, because you can't be "motivated" by yourself everyday. Seek for self-discipline and creating habits.

The bad thing about the Internet is you get very indisciplined, you spoil your brain by feeding it with everything you want immediately as you want, with barely any difficulties. You get a constant positive stimulus to be lazy.

But, if you cut your Internet (or computer), you will find some other way to sabotage yourself. Not that it's not a good idea to cut it, because it is, you should try to get rid of technology at first; but then you should immediately develop your discipline and investigate your health. Without good habits, you're not going too far, except by a miracle, of course (but you shouldn't depend on it if you can do it yourself).

What I did during Lent: setting a more strict sleep routine (no phone/PC after 10 PM), sleep with no curtains blocking the light, so you can rise with the sun, setting a prayer routine (for me, it was daily rosary) and indulging less in sensorial pleasures (e.g. fasting, cold showers, stop listening to music; whatever works for you). Also, stop masturbation/using pornography ASAP, if you haven't done that already.

Sloth was a pretty big one for me, too. I started a garden to grow some vegetables. Start small, maybe a couple of your favorite veggies, and you'll find over time that you're doing something productive every day.

If you can, go for a short 10 minute walk every day AT A SPECIFIC TIME, without fail. Something you can do in all seasons. If you build your life around a schedule like that, even if it is so short, you will get two effects:

1) discipline that overcoms sloth, and will begin to automatically organize your life

2) increased T from going outside.

I had these same problems and doing this fixed it. Also some other massive things: sleep 9 hours if possible, eat healthy (high starch carb low fat, less or no animal stuff, etc, etc). These alone give you a boost of energy that you can use to get stuff done, when you begin doing stuff you'll want to keep it going, esp in addition to the 10minute walk.
