Recently I was devastated to learn my dad has total organ failure, while I am away at college. I have been praying for him prayers for the sick, but then I did something which afterward I realized I don't know if its okay to do. I prayed for my guardian angel to leave me this night and to stay with my father, with his guardian angel too, and for them to protect him and watch over him. I am really upset about my father, but I want to know if I did the right thing

Fr. Ripperger has said you can, whether or not they do is not something you can really know. We're not really meant to know the going-ons on the spiritual side, only the mystics or living Saints get these kinds of things.

I'd also be extremely wary with angelology, make sure you only check out Catholic-approved material. The subject on the internet is usually mixed with a lot of occult and new-age garbage.
