I'm good friends with a collector of Orthodox iconography. He was actually my sponsor at my Chrismation. I made an icon thread and dumped a lot of my photos I took at his house. I can post some of them again.

It was made in Russia in the 16th century and later had the metal frame added to protect it. It was smuggled out of Russia to the USA during the reign of the USSR to escape the militant athiests who were destroying icons in that timeframe. It was passed around in the USA for a while until my friend won it in an auction.

Also, apologies about the quality. He keeps his rooms dimly lit to preserve the icons, and I was taking photos with my phone with no prior experience with photography.

He only has a fraction of his collection on display. Most of them are packed up in boxes. I'm fairly certain it's one of the biggest privately owned collections of icons in burgerland.
