The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

What's your opinin in churches charging admission to people entering them? On one hand it doesn't seem right, on the other hand it's a good way to fund the Diocese and repel disrespectful non-Catholic tourists.

Wait, are they charging to enter the church while they're having mass, or is it something else?

Don't the churches have a wooden box where people can leave whatever they want, if they want? I think it's more respectful that way for the church and for the people.

Its a slippery slope, let me tell you. As an Anglican i have witnessed what this can do to your church. It started off with charging entry into the odd cathedral, big tourist attractions, to try and bring in a bit more money to the diocese. However this gave the go-ahead for more commercialisation. You now see most large churches with a gift shop of sorts selling all sorts of wares, even alcohol in some cases. Where it got tricky for me was seeing my beautiful, beautiful abbey hosting a market in the nave. I couldn't believe that something so un-christian could happen and be sanctioned to happen in a church. Don't do it papists, i saw this process has already stared when i visited Prague in several of the cathedrals there. Remember what your churches are, houses of god for worship NOT tourist attractions.

This, churches can't be used as business, its a place of worship and should still serve the local folk with service of mass.

I remember going to the Sint-Michielskathedraal in Brussels, there was a shop build into it in a separate wing.

I did buy some nice things, two crosses (one as a pendant), a foldable small icon, and something else I forgot.

depending on how it's placed and what it sells it's permissible, but I'd rather avoid it and build a shop next to the cathedral instead.

I know that some cathedrals offer guides like in a museum so there's someone that explains paintings, statues, and history. I went to one a while ago and I was a kid so I can't remember if they charged for it

Gift shops aren't a big deal depending on how it's handled. There's a gift shop at my church, but it's a completely separate building and it closes during Mass. Before the internet, the church gift shop was the only place to get rosaries, medals, prayer cards, and other sundries. I don't see them as a problem.

Charging admission at the door however … eww. That should never be done.
