Wondering what everyone's favorite literal translation is and why.

Greek (NT) and Hebrew (OT) with the force and power of the Holy Spirit to guide me.

Interlinear probably.

Now friend, that is a rather odd response. When I read philosophical books, I was recommended literal translations. Why is the bible different? The holy spirit? I do not think God would be bothered.

>The worst translations

no explanation?

Young's Literal Translation, cause it's one of the few based on the Textus Receptus. I like the idea of the Modern Literal Translation, but I don't get their refusal to release a Textus Receptus version. Like, if it's all just a computer program for the Koine Greek of the critcal text, why not apply the same program to the Textus Receptus? I'd like to put together the Revised Mechanical Translation of the Hebrew OT with the Modern Literal Version of the NT and see how they compare to my King James, but the Mechanical Translation is super fucking Jewish and the MLV isn't Textus Receptus so there's no real way to compare them

I really like the New American Standard.

Because the TR is obsolete. We have more ancient manuscripts onto which we can base our translations now.

Yeah I'm hesitant to recommend any version that changes the meaning of any of about 50 key verses that I always check myself, because I don't want to create a stumbling-block for anyone else who might read them. Sadly even the YLT clearly changed about 22 of them, such as 1 Corinthians 1:18, Isaiah 26:2 and Psalm 100:5.
