I'm planning on buying a small silver crucifix because I've noticed that my current one is degrading.

Not quite m8, EO. A cross is a cross but I hate the possibility of coming off as a tourist. The coptic crosses are beautiful too, old and new.

I think it's a nice reminder of your faith. It's not needed, necessarily, but it also helps others to be more open about their faith. It's the same reason ancient Christians used to draw the fish on the ground - to know who was their brother. It would be nice if we had a greeting (like the Muslim "salaam alaikum"), but I doubt any of us could agree to any one thing.

These days, though, especially here in the US, it could just be some ironic hipster. They can usually be spotted because they wear actual rosaries as jewelry, but that's not always the case.

Used to have a friend at work who was a strong Christian. 90% of the talk between us would be about Christ, religion, etc. During his last week of work he surprised me with a black/silver cross necklace that was pretty close to the same one he wore.

Was never one for jewelry, so I've only worn it like twice in the past 5 years. Still keep it on my desk though. Maybe I'll start wearing it on a consistent basis one day. Haven't seen the guy since he gave me the cross.
