>Torture was employed in all civil and religious trials in Europe. The Spanish Inquisition used it more restrictively than was common at the time. Hace tiempo me crucé con el mapa adjunto, parte de la premisa "y que pasaría si Africa nunca hubiese sido colonizada" y hasta cierto punto tiene sentido, parte de la idea de que la peste negra exterminó a la mayoría de la población europea y por ende nunca pudieron invadir el continente, las fronteras y la idea de nación-estado evolucionó en el continente de manera paralela a lo que ocurrió en nuestra línea temporal y las fronteras se basaron en fronteras naturales como ríos, valles o montañas en lugar de fronteras de administración colonial. Todo se ve bonito…

Ignora un detalle importante, los europeos no fueron los primeros ni los únicos en colonizar el continente, Omán tenía un monopolio sobre el comercio de esclavos en el áfrica oriental centrado en Zanzíbar que duró hasta el siglo XIX, Egipto estaba avanzando sobre el África centro y Este; antes que llegaran los británicos todo el Sudán era prácticamente un protectorado Egipcio. Sin los europeos probablemente Marruecos o Argelia se habrían asentado en el África occidental en el golfo de Guinea y hubieran implementado un comercio de esclavos de la misma manera que hizo Omán en el Este. Dudo mucho que el avance musulmán sobre la región habría sido pacífico, quizá en el sur habría habido una relación más de comerciantes y el Islam habría sido introducido como lo fue en Malasia e Indonesia, o sea, por parte de comerciantes en lugar a punta de espada aunque aún así lo dudo. Otra cosa que se les olvida es que muchas de las tribus africanas eran tan sino más crueles que los propios europeos, por ejemplo, los Zulu cometieron genocidio contra las otras tribus de la región.
Básicamente, un escenario en el que la repartición del África no hubiese ocurrido básicamente sería un África más islamizada y un comercio de esclavos más prolongado y más extendido, ya que la idea de libertad de nacimiento fue un concepto introducido por los europeos y dudo mucho que podría haberse originado de manera independiente en el mundo árabe.
