Interesting that this cultural difference still persists today - I'd say that northern Europeans are less body-flaunting, and cover up more, than Mediterraneans. Obviously you might say "No shit, it's cold in northern Europe" but the summers here are still capable of getting hot as absolute balls. English summers are 3hot5me, and a friend of mine living in Sweden says it's about the same there. People walking around topless midsummer here happens, but in general it's considered a bit distasteful unless you're in a beach. By all means, be a topless man or a bikini-clad woman on the beach, but if you leave the beach to head back into town you should probably put something on; in contrast, in most Mediterranean places I've been this expectation isn't present. Furthermore, nudist beaches are pretty rare in England (though I have been told they're more common than you'd think in Sweden, so take from that what you will).

A man and a wife's bodies are each other's privileges, I'm not saying that you should only let someone see you naked once you're married, I'm not even saying you shouldn't have premarital sex*, I'm just saying that your naked self has an intrinsic intimacy to it that shouldn't be disregarded.
*Tangentially, that said, maybe pre-marital sex should be stigmatised more. Personally, I've done it, and I'm sure most of us have, but to some degree we're a product of our times. Saving yourself until marriage and finding a woman willing to do the same is next to fucking impossible unless you're a Christian. I think there is value is in waiting until marriage, but it is outweighed by how fucking mad you'd go denying yourself the sensibility of having a few girlfriends before you find one worth making permanent. I recommend just holding yourself to the same standards you'd want a woman to conform to. Chances are that you reading this would be okay with a woman who'd had a few relationships of varying lengths and little to no sex outside of them, but would not be okay with some former cock-carousel-riding turboslut. Therefore, don't be a serial pussy-slaying turboslut but don't deny yourself loving someone who may or may not end up being your wife. Imagine if you ended up going nowhere with an amazing woman who, in some alternate reality, might have been the best possible mother of your children, because you denied yourself an important means of developing your relationship together.
