Outside of old age, the most common reason is (for women) childbirth, and for men, prostate issues, although I can't imagine that either of those things could affect someone on a chan (who'd be in their teens-20s/30s). So, aside from those, the causes could be a birth defect or an accident, and it doesn't have to be a 'freak accident' either, it's not too hard to sustain nerve or muscle damage in that area if someone crashes his car hard enough. I undertook group therapy when I became incontinent as a kid, and there was a surprisingly diverse cohortthere were kids who were disabled, then there were the ones who seemed completely normal from the outside, like me: a stranger would have had no sense that we were incontinent. Incontinence is one of the strangest diseases to have as it's so stigmatised (I suppose I understand the reason) and no-one imagines someone above the age of 5 and below the age of 70 could wear diapers. That's one of the most difficult things in discussing it. Incontinence is just one of those things you have to manage, and I find ABDL really helped my self-esteem when I was just coming to terms with itnow I can revel, at least some of the time, in my wearing 24/7.
It's also not spoken about a lot because it's a bit sad, but there's a connection between childhood abuse, mental health issues and incontinence… it sounds strange, but it is a real loss of control, not simply attention-seeking; there have been studies undertaken, all the rest. It doesn't have a physical cause however, there's no actual muscle issue, so it generally mends itself gradually as the person's mental health is mended.
In terms of things like enuresis, that's common and often has no real 'cause' as such, someone starts to bedwet in their teens for no reason and continues on. It seems to run in families, which makes sense. Although enuresis isn't defined as incontinence, even though it operates in the same way. People with enuresis don't always go to the doctor because it doesn't impact on their lives enough.
For me, I was operated on when I was a kid and a mistake was made, and it was supposed to fix resect the bowel (a bit like when someone has Hirschprung's disease--although I didn't have that) to fix encopresis, but it led me to become incontinent, which is ironic (although I never appreciated the humour until later on…).
I forgot to mention, seizures can cause muscle spasms and incontinence, I've seen a girl wet herself when she seized up. I don't know if that counts because it's sporadic rather than daily.
BTW, in terms of untraining, untraining isn't genuine incontinence but it's functionally the same as being incontinent. You guys are alright, abdl diapers are way better than disposable
