The source material is garbage? It peaked pretty early in the first Aogiri Tree assault but it kept spinning its wheels all the way toward the end with tokyo ghoul:re. It would have been better if Kaneki died in failure. In fact, I think that tokyo ghoul:re is just a fever dream of his dying mind because there is so much of that story that doesn't make sense. It would be clever if that actually did happen but it was not unfortunately.

What we got was a subversive ending that created a third enemy to make the ghouls and humans work together for a common goal. That could've worked, cliche as it may be, but not in the way that the manga did it. Also the adaptation condensed and ruined some of the best arcs in both tokyo ghoul and tokyo ghoul:re for very arbitrary reasons.

Overall, I'll take the manga over the anime.Some of the smaller story-arcs are drawn out but, it still has a good flow.

If you could care less about story. Then, there isn't much wrong with the anime. Fantastic visuals, great action sequences, tasteful OST.

S1 was great. S2 √A... was more along the lines of: Not great, not terrible. Except, Studio Pierrot went off cannon and skipped ~25 chapters.

I wound up dropping the anime after √A. As a fan of the manga, I remember saying WTF at the plot holes in 2018.
