So, how did you get into Touhou?

I always saw images, memes about the game, but what really got my interest was the music that people were making. The amount of variety you could find was something I loved and kinda inspired me to put more effort on the piano, only for later having to stop because of study.
That was a few years ago, I beat the game on normal on 11 and 12 without continues, lunatic 1cc is still too far away still.

I just clicked touhou thread on /v/ 2 or 3 years ago.
I only got one 1cc after all this time.
I lose motivation to clear shmup games. Around stages 3 - 5. If I manage to get to stage 6 then I do them completely.

The first Touhou thing I saw was Bad Apple IIRC, but from there, I got sucked in by Orchestral-style musical arranges.
I still fondly remember how I actually played EOSD for the first time, thought myself mighty clever after beating Rumia with minimal problems, and then had my ass beaten by Cirno of all the people. And the sudden spike in difficulty that came with Patche was another thing entirely.

I was looking for a nice free or cheap game that would run on a low-end laptop. Bless ZUN for not giving a damn about foreigners downloading his stuff.

This was the same route for me. I can't quite remember what my first Touhou music was, but early on I got really into Demetori and Icarus'cry and the like. I then got sucked into reading about the characters and backstories, started playing EoSD, went on fan art downloading expeditions, etc. I bought some albums and art books off Mandarake a couple years ago too

>The first Touhou thing I saw was Bad Apple IIRC
Yep, same here. It was a couple other things as Touhou is so popular, one of them being:
>Listening to a playlist that had Pendulum in it
>Hear Arclight by aran
>Get into Japanese electronic music
>Eventually end up listening to Alice's Emotion (Group that remixes Touhou songs)
>Really like it
What got me really into Touhou was the aesthetics of it. Long before I came here, I saved tons of pictures of 2hus because they had a great visual appeal, and then wondering if 8chan had a board for this, I put in "8ch.net/2hu" in the URL bar to see if there's a board for that.
And actually, I was a bit ashamed for liking Bad Apple, because I disliked anime then since I didn't like the fanbase, and also because the animes I've seen were almost all complete trash. However, I still thought the song and the video were really neat.

This as well. The quality of fanart people churn out for Touhou sometimes can be mind-staggering.

I unironically like this.
I got into Touhou through the music. The embedded track specifically.

I was aware of the music for quite a while. Only really started getting into it recently when HSiFS went on steam.

I was 11, memes were epic, so I watched vid related and thought it was pretty cool.
The music struck out from me from recognition, I knew about ParagonX9 and the song from FFX they used, but Zenius -i- Vanisher was new and cool, so I looked up the original to see if it was from anything.
The music video for it seemed cool, but it wasn't from anything and saw all of the characters and the vague story was original. Fair enough, that just leaves less research for the experience.
Come time for listening and I end up finding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwOI2Nvrwr8 which absolutely blew my preteen mind. This sexy goth girl wasn't on the wiki list! Who the fuck is this ZUN guy in the description? Why are people calling her an alien?
I'm not ashamed to admit that I was disappointed by the actual Heian Alien, but "anime Space Invaders on crack" remained on my backlog for years after that.

It's a website where you can bet fake money on A.I. controlled Mugen fights. Everyone always bet on 2hu, as they usually wiped the floor with their opponents.
After some time I'd become familiar enough with the 2hus that I could start matching their names and faces. I also did a search for the McRoll'd theme (yes, Ronald McDonald is in the roster) to submit for the site's soundtrack, only to find the themes and memes of all these other Touhous that I didn't realize they had. It was a fast decision that I should start playing 2hu, and it only took a few months to download and complete EoSD to DDC.
The games hooked me in ways that I wasn't expecting. No other series had brought me to tears so many times.
Then Gamergate happened, and I realized it was the plot of DDC playing out in real life. But that's off-topic at this point.

I was into /monster/girls, specifically Kitsune for the longest time. I didn't really care about anything anime outside of the basic cute-girls-doing-cute-things concept and hentai. I managed to be completely unaware of Touhou as a whole until I started to love Ran for her gentle caring character and digged in on official material, first "informational" literature like Perfect Memento in Strict Sense, later games starting with EoSD and PCB. Really loved the characters and world building right from the start. I didn't realise until then that Touhou was actually a big franchise, while I of course saw it being mentioned often or pictures posted I never payed it too much attention since it was just random anime picture #214132 for me. Touhou was also a gateway into anime for me and still is because I'm thinking for months if not a whole year now about what series I should actually begin with first
