Paulides thinks that Sasquatches have some kind of mystical powers, as do his crackpot colleagues in the Sasquatch Genome Project. He believes that they are essentially magical creatures like fairies and use magic to spirit people away.
If you're going to entertain the notion they exist, it makes more sense to assume they're intelligent hominids well-adapted to their environment, than to think magic is involved.
Most bigfoot encounters are not peaceful. They're terrifying for the people involved. And you're never going to hear stories from the unlucky souls killed and eaten by them.
Sasquatches avoid killing humans when they're afraid they'll get caught or injured in the encounter. Which explains why Paulides noticed a pattern of children vanishing. Especially disabled children. And usually right before a storm that would cover the creature's tracks.
Sasquatches will also snatch up human adults who look like bums or drifters. They know those people won't be missed.
An adult Bigfoot, assuming an average weight of 800 pounds, requires about 120,000 calories a day for basal metabolism. If the creature is up and on the move, considerably more. They are always hungry and spend almost every waking moment hunting. Foraging for roots and berries doesn't pay off when you have those kinds of calorie requirements.
This is likely a real Bigfoot encounter: http://bigfootevidence.blogspot.ie/2016/12/bigfoot-grabbed-and-ate-my-dogs.html
This one is certainly true as well, and illustrative of how they relate to humans when we encounter them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3PqTo5EulU
This 911 call is famous, well-substantiated, and also a good example of what actual encounters are like. Note the fear in the woman's voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCPX2bQrKOo
