> Vietnamese is complicate
I hate it when i have to meet a stranger. I did not know her/his age, so it is very embarassing if i use the wrong word.
It is sorted by age and gender.
Here is some pronouns:
Young girl/boy: em
Older man (several years old): anh
woman : chị
Even a bit older man: chú
woman: cô
More old man (20-30 years older than you, for both genders): bác (uncle)
Very old person (older than the uncle):
Male: ông (~grand father)
Female: bà (~grand mother)
Actually, ông and bà are usually used in invitations or formal context, for a VIP, etc, the age is not important.
The older person than the very old one: cụ
(Great grandparents) The word is used for both gender.
