People don't actually like this piece of shit, do they? It basically broke even at best and was godawful for multiple reasons. Most of the fake praise I saw amounted to

The blue arms were a shit choice and Hesse defended keeping them harder than if he'd just done it right. Carrey's career died when he became antivax & made shit like Grinch, and he doesn't look the part. Even if they had got the visuals right, the plot was still absolute shit so it wouldn't have saved the film. It's as watchable as that Jem movie from a couple years back that nobody liked, the only reason it did remotely better was because of butthurt Nazi bux.
It's also a franchise that deserves to die as a whole since the fanbase is largely filled with pedophiles & crybabies. Shit, Microsoft buying Sega is going to be epic… they won't put up with the mentally unstable kiddie diddlers or "muh fanfic is canon" tards. Sony did the movie so MS will probably forget it exists and cancel the sequel. I'll be sitting back and laughing as the cunts cry.

i watched this while high, expecting a train wreck into a dumpster fire
i had 0 hopes and expectations for this movie, it had everything going against it, even after the character redesign all the traits of Holywood's worst cliches were there
but then i watched it
>the movie focus on Sonic with the humans being background or side characters
>Sonic is likable and had that TMNT brand of 90s cool
>the CGI looks nice
>watching Sonic interact with the world brought my inner child out
then came Eggman, boy had i no hopes for eggman… and boy was i wrong
>Jim Carrey was in his prime, his acting was the likes of which i havent seen since The Mask and Ace Ventura
>there was an unusual lack of cringe moments, not just for a holywood kids movie but for a videogame movie and a Sonic one at that
>an end credit scene actually left me hyped for a sequel
i had forgotten what hype meant
it's no masterpiece by any stretch of the word, but it does it's job, it's fun, tells a self contained story and it introduces characters and a world for a sequel
i watched this movie expecting a turd but i go a cupcake instead, i definitely cant complain

after a successful movie, Sonic finally has a victory under his belt that Mario still lacks
TLDR: the movie was alright but most of the praise it got it got by blowing up peoples expectations and the reason they could do so is because the bar for this movie was set very very low, not just by the initial trailer but also by Holywood's track record with videogame movies

Honestly I didn't care for it, people are praising it, while I thought it was just average with some highlights, which is kind of a shame. Though what might've gotten such a positive reception was that this was sonic fuck up that was PUBLICLY PREVENTED, that is BIG in the world of SEGA!!!! NOBODY has ever seen a sonic project saved with such finesse, I believe there was more communication with the public with this media project than anything sonic in the PAST 15 YEARS. That, is commendable. Very good accidental PR move, and a progressive one at that in the wacky world of SEGA sammy. Now onto the movie itself.
It's not quite the avengers, but then again, I didn't give a shit about iron man either. Now you have few people who care about sonic, and want to see avengers level action with their favorite spiky cunt without giving the mouse money, what do you do? Hire the japs that made sonic into sonic, make them do the choreography for fight scenes, write some serious scenes while having westeners pull their autism back, don't want sonic to be to serious, or too comedic, what people like about sonic is the combination between being action packed with a very welcoming cartoony twist, sonic is still EXTREMELY unique in the eyes of the public! Sonic could have had his own monopoly if it wasn't for mismanagement, anyways, I'm going off topic.
You need humor? Well FUCK that's a hard one, you're going to either contact writers who've retired or are still working on some obscure projects, shit you don't even need old writers, you can pave the way for a new sonic generation by hiring autists who know a lot about the brand like mugimikey, I am not too comfortable with e-celebs due to not knowing their professional standards, so there are still a lot of writers from the mid 80's and late 90's available.
I'm sure there are a few of them who know what sonic represents more than the writers of this movie; that's not to say they didn't understand, they did, this is their first rodeo so I'm cautiously optimistic about the next movie. Though it might take a few movies to really show the best side of sanic.
I want to scratch that storytelling itch and have them bring back the adventure lore, I'm so starved for sonic content so I've started writing my own canon.

Sonic is a weird lemon, I called it sonic lemon theory.
