The wild west of the internet is over, they can't easily moderate saying nigger in VOIP to a server full of children so they had to eliminate it entirely. Just look at how a game like overwatch moderates its player interactions to better understand why ingame VOIP is a thing of the past.

Same thing with sprays in valve games for example, a fun little feature that was erased from valve games after left for dead because theres no way to stop you from using it to do mischievous shit like show porn to kids.

Heroes of the Storm has the option for it but I never use it. I don't want to waste bandwith just so I can hear some cringy retard's voice while playing my games.

That really sucks, I grew up playing cs1.6 jailbreak and VOIP has been a cornerstone to my gaming experience.

I hate getting on dicksword with people, just to play games and chat or insult someone.

I played PUBG when it was in alpha and it was extremely fun and comfy to just yell at the kids in the lobby or the plane, sometimes even having conversations or verbal fights with enemies during combat… It was kinda entertaining and fun, I miss it so freaking much

I've retired my mic entirely because of R6 siege. I can call out where enemies are, and my team will ignore it and look the opposite direction.

To be honest, I haven't used voice chat in games since Microsoft introduced private party chats. Nobody used public channels after that, and when I went back to PC I mostly stuck to single-player titles and classic games because it's too dangerous to have fun and let your guard down. Besides, most people just wanted to chat through discord or some shit and /v/ got me paranoid of them recording everything I say.
