LEGO Lord of the Rings is the worst LEGO game I have ever played. I have been playing this game through with my friend just today, and we've been playing for six fucking hours, and the game bugged out over 3 or 4 times, crashing completely and having us repeat the level and making us go through some of the worst platformer level design I have seen in a fucking video game. The game is visibly made to play on co-op, and yet it keeps seperating you into two different fucking levels all the fucking times, while one player is fighting the fucking Balrog as Gandalf, the second one is forced to look through India street-tier shit filled level for fucking fish. There are several instances of one player doing something cool while the other has to fucking wait for the other one to finish.

Not only that but the game focuses on combat so fucking much despite the fact that the combat is not interesting. It mostly consists of mashing fucking buttons, and while other LEGO games had combat segments, they were never as long as combat segments in this game. Not only that, but often the game makes you solve a puzzle to defeat an enemy, on of the examples is the fight with the troll. The problem is, that the game makes you solve the same fucking puzzle a few fucking times for every heart that you do. At least bosses in the older games, had a decency to either be short, or spice up the gameplay by giving you different puzzles the boss would often destroy a piece of terrain, closing off the previous way to defeat him and opening another one. The fucking bog level is the absolute worst Deadmarshes. One player has to hide in a fucking treestump, while the other has to put on a cloak that will turn him into a bush. Then they have to wait for the Felbeast to fly down and Gollum to unlock the next piece of the path. This is the only puzzle you are solving, around 5 fucking times. Five fucking times of pushing two buttons and waiting for something to happen. And then you get a small but kind of cool segment of you fighting two Mumakils, which was incredibly fucking short. It felt like an artificial way to extend the play time, and it was just so fucking tedious.

Not only that but the worst thing is that this game has geniuently cool ideas, like the open world. But the game instead of just making you first play as Aragorn and his part of the team, and then as Frodo and his part of his team, so as to not separate the players playing the game and allow them to actually explore the fucking game world, they instead opt to seperate the fucking characters making one player play as one of them, and the other as the another.

If you are going to seperate the characters anyways, and I know you have during to plot reasons, just block off the plot of Aragon and his part of the team, and first go through the Frodo levels.

This turd was made for those with defective minds (women, soyboys, faggots and shitskins) just for the "muh fad of the moment" mixed with manchildren's toys for those same retarded subhumans.

Why the hell would you even think that a nugame based on a Pedowood fad (they weren't aiming for the books) and toys for children/mentally ill "adults" was going to be any good?

>this game has geniuently cool ideas, like the open world

>open world being ever good

Confirmed to be a retard

My favorite lego games were the first Indiana Jones and Batman ones, last one I played was the Harry Potter one, which I thought was better than the second Indiana Jones game but still left me disinterested in future games. How bad have they gotten as a whole?

>Jon Burton will never get to make that lego James Bond game

he had it all slated to go and then Casino Royale came out, completely changing the tone of 007 in the public consciousness

Lego has literally made the same boring game more than 12 times in a row and sold it to regards and parents looking for a new pacifier for their child.

These games are literally dog chew toys for kids.

Remember when Lego made interesting games? Remember Legoland? Rock Raiders? Lego Island? A golden age long past.

>How bad have they gotten as a whole?

that's actually a harder question to answer than it strictly needed to be. The quality keeps varying along with the focus (and not always together)

>LEGO Jurassic Park

quite good but it's huge on puzzles and platforming. The occasions when it focuses on combat often feel forced and it's no fun fighting the same compsagnathi over and over again. The levels recreating various escape scenes as well as the puzzle stage boss fights are excellent. The best way to experience Lost World. Also the only LEGO game where you can throw jars of urine

>LEGO Batman 3

much bigger on combat but feels lacking in many ways, like they were going through the numbers. Genuinely a pity because the story (Brainiac has made the Earth fun-sized, add the Lantern Corps) and available characters (fucking everyone in DC) should have facilitated a much better game with much more creative puzzles than "use X lantern ring color on Y door"

>LEGO Marvel's Avengers

decent combat but nothing too special. The open world where you explore New York City didn't really facilitate much, except for the fuckwin Defenders storyline they snuck in there before Netflix could do theirs

>LEGO City Undercover

has an excellent mix of combat, platforming, and puzzle solving, but doesn't do too much in the way of creative boss fights. The open world sections incorporate lots of creativity in how you explore and the parkour, despite being highly context sensitive, makes for some fun platforming and speedrunning segments. I demand a sequel and not just the 3DS prelude, maybe give it a medieval focus because LEGO Castle is the shit

>LEGO Movie Videogame

just fucking skip it and watch the movie instead. It was rushed out the door and feels like it in almost every aspect of its gameplay

if you like the gameplay model, the frequent up and down of the franchise makes every new LEGO game worth a look, but a definite pirate before you buy. They made a DC Super Villains game in 2018; I wonder how it turned out

I mean

>games for the iconic building toy franchise

>you spend 90% of your time breaking things

>there is no concessions to the nature of the toy like a build catalog so you can see what builds are in the game and make them yourself or whatever

>you occasionally rearrange the bits into a lazy abortion of a configuration that solves a dilemma

>this is all you do for the entire game

>the game difficulty is aimed at children too young to have seen the films the games are based on

These skinner boxes upset me more than they should.

In 2009 they released a Lego game I don't think too many played since it was exclusive to the DS, Lego Battles. This one is actually pretty impressive. It's a 90s RTS with ~90 levels spread across 6 campaigns. The six campaigns were:

>a king seeking to vanquish the undead from his kingdom

>a necromancy-wielding wizard who needs to destroy a kingdom in order to perform the GF summoning ritual

>a pirate who just wants to plunder in peace

>an admiral of the royal fleet tasked with executing said pirate

>humans trying to colonize Mars are forced to confront an alien menace

>aliens that have crash landed on Mars and just want to go home

Pics related. It's the last Lego game I know of that doesn't follow the "you have four hearts and infinite lives brawl through this level based on a scene from a licensed property" formula, and it's kind of impressive as an RTS they made fit onto the DS.

Now they have voice acting too (since about 2013 I think), so the one bit of creativity the nuLego games had (being forced to communicate a plot without dialogue) is gone.

There have been some enjoyable Modern Lego games, I 100%ed Lego Batman 2 recently and I can't think of much about it that I didn't like. Lego City Undercover is also quality. Tho i'm sure if you just start playing them all back to back then the template is all gonna blend together, at times you can tell the devlopers really do put some love in the game their making, but it's still has to be a yearly release at the end of the day.

Now i'm remembering Lego Alpha Team, one of the few PC games that the much younger me actually played. I still remember being excited about the whole game since there were 6 members on the team, with 4 boys and 2 girls, and that fit the same ratio as my family, so everyone got assigned a character when we were looking at the box art.

that's one I'd never heard of, and I've played most of the old school PC lego games

Alpha Team was basically a rube Goldberg machine puzzle game, your given a room with an objective and then a bunch of pieces to put in the right order that they become a solution.

What's really interesting is that there is a gameboy Color version of the game, and I think the puzzles are still exactly the same, it just has sprite graphics instead of 3D ones
