It's way better than Kiwami 1's janky combat if that's what you're asking grabs are better reserved for fighting crowds and while Extreme Heat Mode is a gay addition that gives and activated devil trigger. There are less heat moves and they feel a lot less satisfying, but they do more damage on bosses at first. It's worse than 0's in that it feels a lot more floaty and takes a few levels e to take off to a satisfying level.
It looks much better, physics and rag-dolling is occasionally fun to fuck around with and the seamless transition between in and out of combat is nice.

If you like the combat in Zero, Kiwami has similar but a little worse combat to that.
A lot of cut scenes are now in engine which can hurt their impact, because a scene that might be in the rain at night now will just be in game at night.
Music is overall is worse, especially the final boss which was a sombre loop into a beat, then the Kiwami version is filled with drops everywhere which hurt the scene the original conveyed.
Honestly if you just find the original Y1 too aged to play for what ever reason I don't think anyone would turn up their nose to you for playing the more accessible to obtain game it's like a 8.5/10 for kiwami and a 9/10 for the original.

Combat is similar but tighter. There's this shitty thing called the Kiwami system where bosses go into a "recovery" mode where they regain health and you need to switch to the appropriate style(indicated by the color of the fog around them in that mode) so you can do a kiwami action, dealing damage and taking them out of the recovery mode. It's boring, requiring a high enough heat on you at all times(and by extension so far the bosses(Shimano and the goon in the host club) were incredibly health spongy) and much less interesting than the sick transition animations in 0 like the Lao Gui one with the sword/gun combo.
Kamorochu is basically the same town but there's a couple of hostess clubs and the JCC is now replaced with something called Mesuking, same idea but instead of sexy catfighters you have sexy women dressed in insect costumes catfighting. I'm still not a fan of the actual minigame.
Instead of Mr. Shakedown you have the Majima everywhere system. Basically majima is acting like your coach and tries to ambush you wherever you go to help you regain your power, which is the way to upgrade your dragon style. Like I said in the yakuza thread, it's pretty amusing at first but it's much less satisfying to beat than Mr. Shakedown and I can tell it's going to get tedious since unlike Mr. Shakedown he can ambush you at minigames like dressing up as a hostess, dressing up as a barman, hiding in a giant cone or a trashcan, etc.
Also one of the dragon abilities you get is a "majima sensor" where you can get startled by a KIRYU-CHAN sound effect.
Story wise, I never really finished the original Y1 but I don't recall flashback cutscenes showing Niskiyama being a bitch and being walked all over by his goons before his heel turn. I don't like it.
