Well at the very least I can tell you there's know dumb shit with the names. The names are the same in both versions. Obviously I've only seen some of the script, but what I've seen looks fine. The only thing I can say might have been influenced by the west is the designs. Most of the characters are pretty conservatively dressed, though Dorothea and Manuela at least have cleavage. Kronya, the villain, easily has the lewdest outfit, though it looks way more lewd when drawn by the heroes artist (who is a man). There's no Tharja or Camilla this time around. Some people have pointed out that pre-FatesAwakening FE was never all ''that' fanservicey, which is a decent point I suppose, and this game was supposedly heavily inspired by FE4. So honestly…I can't really say. If I were go with my gut, though, I'd say the Japanese side is way more powerful than the western side or I don't think half the things in this game would have flown if Cuck Merigos and his gang were in charge.

Actually, Ashnard isn't the best comparison but I can't find one that works. They all seem like they're designed and written so they could swing to fill one of the usual villain tropes the series uses, or be just heroes depending on which route you take. If you haven't played 1/3 or 11/12, Hardin is an ally in 1/11 and after the game, it's between him and Marth to marry the last lady in the royal bloodline and become emperor of the continent. From what I've read (my brother plays the gacha and I guess they added the lords from the new game to it) they're written pretty grey (claude comes up with a plan to poison enemies at one point) but I was also thinking of the designs. They really seem like they were trying to evoke past villains with those designs. I don't really mind, though. Everything about Fates was a disappointment but the biggest one to me was that they built it up like this dark conflict with lots of characters you like dying depending on the routes, and then you barely get any deaths at all, and most of them are outside of battle. The strength of this medium with this kind of story is that the game could force you to kill a character you like in order to move on but there were chapters in Fates where you're actively working with people from the enemy faction.
