Specific about this game: on hard difficulty, the enemies always aggro towards the character you are controlling making it borderline impossible to play as the mage or healer characters. I thought this was a bug in the 360 version, but looking around it's still present in the ps4 version.

The thing that annoys me about rpgs is when the plot ignores your stats,a nd Dragon Quest has two instances of this. The first is in V, herein your chad father can rip steel doors out of stone with a strength stat of 117, while the main character cannot when he has 255 strength. This is repeated in VIII, where neither Yangus nor the protagonist can bend the bars in a certain prison cutscene despite both of them being able to heft 80 ton boulders right out of the ground as one of their fisticuff moves. This wouldn't have been so bad if the priest NPC in your cell mentioned that the whole compound is cursed, or if the graphics showed an electric current running through them.

Remastered games that only upgrade the resolution slightly but do nothing under the hood. Playing Okami remastered on PS4 and a specific section requires precise aiming to dot a boulder man. The controller stick fidelity simply won't allow you to be that precise.

When you need to reload but the button is mapped to another interact command so you have to look away from things to reload.

When devs patch out features that hardcore players loved and lowcore players who genuinely didn't understand the feature complain and whine until its removed

Rita can stunlock enemies with endless tidal waves and other crowd control spells if you get her the right equipment and skills. Estelle is fucking useless in battle i agree, but she has a spell with a 20% chance of completely negating damage during the entire fight if it procs. I don't know why bamco keeps shitting out healers that are just healsluts without useful battle skills, only kohaku and sophie escape this fate, and even then only because they're monks.

I don't like that every JRPG makes characters break the fourth wall all the time, particularly when they level up. Growing stronger is a gradual thing, and gaining levels is an abstraction of it because you can't make it actually realistic in a game (at least not without a significant effort, and lack of clarity for the player). It annoys me when they go "yatta leberu appu" and strike a pose for the camera. It works in something like Neptunia, which is essentially shitposting and waifu shit in videogame form, but it doesn't suit games that take themselves at least mostly seriously, or where the characters aren't supposed to be fourth wall-breaking jokes.

Similarly, excessive win poses after battle. If you're exploring a dangerous cave or enemy stronghold or whatever, don't stop to make a pose for the camera every time you kill something. At least this one doesn't break the fourth wall so much because killing a group of enemies is a specific and noticeable action, unlike gradually growing stronger.

The reason they fuck it up is because they don't understand that a realistic interruption has a small overlap. The overlap means that some words won't be distinguishable, but that's a lot less important than some think.
